Wednesday January 20th was both the bottom in oil and in CP sentiment about the Flames season.

Most effective PP units thus far in Jan:

1. Washington Capitals (34.5%)
2. LA Kings (29.2%)

It's been pretty good in every game in January, outside of the game against the Oilers when we really needed a PP goal.

Upside-Win: We win. Go Flames Go! WOOOOHOOOOOOO. And we get to own Tortz.

Upside-Loss: We lose. Closer to the coilers. Closer to last place handing points to the worst team in the league. Slightly better odds at a higher/better draft pick.

Wow, felt dirty just typing that.

GO FLAMES GO! WINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

Columbus is the worst team in the league. Therefore I am fully expecting a Flames' loss as once again our useless PP loses us the game.

I am really torn on this season. I really want this team to make a run.

But then I worry because I don't want them to make bad contract decisions on Russell and Hudler, whom they are more likely to trade if we are out of it.

Plus it looks like a deep draft in the top 5 to 10 and that is very enticing (deeper than last year IMO).

In the end the playoffs should still be the goal, but at the same time I am not completely heartbroken if the team doesn't make the playoffs. 1 step backwards may help us take 2 or 3 steps forward in the long term.

I don't think Brad is the type of GM who will make those kinds of decisions based on whether or not they squeak into the playoffs. During his intermission interview with Millions, he said he believes the .500 record is a reflection of this team. That means he know he needs to improve the and won't be handing out contracts like candy if they squeeze in.

Furthermore, drafting high has never guaranteed anything, so tanking should always be frowned upon, and you should never feel torn about winning. Ever. Period.

I agree with the premise that winning is good, losing is bad. I do think, however, that Edmonton skews the "drafting high is no guarantee" notion. It's not a guarantee, but Fla has done OK. The teams before Edmonton had their 3 year run (NYI, TB and Chi) did well and arguably Washington, St. Louis and Pitt did pretty well as well.

NYI has done pretty awful with top 5 drafting in recent memory. Just off the top of my head. Reinhart (traded) Strome (demoted to AHL earlier this year) Dal Colle (cut from world juniors as a 19 year old, declining junior numbers) Neiderreiter (feud, traded)

NYI hasn't done that great. Outside of Tavares there's not too much to get excited about there. They're good, but not elite

My favorite part of this gif is SOB putting his elbow on Hartley's back like he's just leaning on him going "effing rights, coach"

EDIT: on second look, his glance to his other side makes me think he might have a bag of popcorn in his hand that he's reaching for.

"Dis gunna be good!"

There is just so much going on in this gif. I can watch it for hours and be entertained.

- SOB chillin on Artley
- Gelinas just chompin away on his gum
- Jiri dipping and bobbing trying to hear/see whats going on
- Russell spitting on the floor
- Grats being amazing.

Just so much fun in this gif.
