Foote actually sounds a lot like Robyn Regher in his draft year. Mobile for a big guy, lacks that extra intensity and meaness, which we know is in his DNA. Just have to get it out of him.

Think I found the player I hope the Flames draft. Sasha Chmelevski of the Ottawa 67s. No. He's not Russian. He is American. He's an average sized RHS center with top end skill and speed. He's ranked in the 2nd round so maybe the Flames trade down and maybe grab a 2nd as well. Other favorites include Popugaev, Kostin, Vesalainen. I expect none of those 3 to be there at the Flames pick. Also, if the Flames did take a Chmelevski type with their 1st, remember, they don't have a 2nd and there is no board.

I wouldn't entirely be shocked if the Flames pulled a 2012 and traded down to get a 2nd, especially if there is a good chance their guy will go in the mid 20's like with Jankowski.

From all I have read about Chmelevski, he has amazing iq, and a skill set that has been described as"deadly". What he needs to develop apparently, is defence, which we know can be taught. What cannot be taught is a sniper shot and speed with deft hands.

He's a perfect long shot too since he is 17 with a June birthday. Reminds me a bunch of Joe Pavelski when I read about him.

All of it screams Flames to me. Trade down to wherever and nab this guy.

Foote plays like a young Brent Seabrook. Going to be a good one.

With already NHL size (6'3 - 210lbs), strong IQ and NHL pedigree I would expect him to be on an NHL roster sooner rather than later as well.

I literally have no idea where we'll go this year with our pick, partly due to the position, mostly due to the lack of any consensus after 2. I have the feeling, based on draft rankings so far that teams will be all over the shop.

Based on our last couple I have a lot of faith in our scouts to get the right picks.

Bob McKenzie's top 15 rankings - draft lottery edition

http://www.tsn.ca/patrick-hischier-i...nking-1.736258

1. Patrick
2. Hischer
3. Vilardi
4. Heiskanen
5. Mittelstadt
6. Tippett
7. Makar
8. Rasmussen
9. Glass
10. Necas
11. Pettersson
12. Liljegren
13. Kostin
14. Andersson
15. Vesalainen

So with the Flames picking 16th or 17th, McKenzie's list can help imagine who might be left over after the top 15 (e.g. Tolvanen, Poehling, Foote, etc). Also could predict a couple that could drop a couple of spots like Vesalainen/Kostin or more than a few like Liljegren/Necas.

Liljegren at 12, so tantalizingly close.

I'm surprised that Rasmussen is still that high. I still don't know what to think of him, he's covered in red flags but he's huge and scores a lot of goals.

Interesting to see Liljegren where is he. Was a consensus top3 pick at the beginning of the year. If he's available at the ~12 position I wonder if teams try to trade up or stay put and get a guy like Foote.
I do think with the recent emergence of players who had dads who played in the NHL (Tkachuk, Domi, Nylander, Chychrun, Kapanen etc etc) and the professionalism they bring at a really young age is something that can't be ignored by GM's.

Boy, if Tolvanen was there at the Flames pick...

Wonder why the drop? He has all sorts of star upside.

How does Liljegren up until this point compare with Kylington?

I actually like where the Flames are sitting in this draft. As Sureloss said, just going off Mckenzies rankings there will be some notable guys that will be left. Really like the idea of Foote or Hague, seen Foote play live 4 times came away impressed every time. Thought from my viewings he moved very well for his size and has a cannon of a slap shot. Suzuki, Tolvanen are the two others I would target here as well. Kostin could drop here but he scares me as his draft year seems to have been terrible, hoping for Vesalainen to drop but that may be wishful thinking. Either way Flames gonna get a nice prospect to add to the cupboards. Suzuki>>>Andersson all day long

Popugaev was pretty much a no-show after the trade to the Cougars (51 points in 40gp for MJ, 19 points in 31pg for PG).

Pretty good team in PG, so not sure what went on there.
