Virtually all land developers build above minimum City density standards. There's a fairly obvious economic incentive to do so.

Something to be said about the standards that make a community pleasant to be in. No tree's, no greenery, no place for snow.
Also, no field to drain into, all to the city. Hopefully this doesn't become a trend.

It's completely ridiculous, but I point the finger at the developers for designing these neighborhoods without acceptable parking or even acceptable yard space. The city should be holding them accountable to create actual residential areas with liveable/usable outdoor space instead of allowing them to jam a few more houses on by decreasing lot sizes more and more.

at least they put driveways in. A few blocks from my house, they just parked on the lawn. Looked awesome in the spring.

No acceptable parking before? Those are two car garages that I see attached so conveniently right to the house...
So 4 spots to park without street parking anything. And yes the concrete jungle is ridiculous as it is now.

That raises another issue. They have effectively removed street parking (probably a stall per house) which is something they don't have the right to do.
Honestly I don't know how this is even an issue. It's against the bylaw. No reason the City shouldn't be forcing them to remove it.

Aesthetically speaking, it looks like crap. Makes a treeless suburban street look just a little uglier.
However, I do appreciate the attempt at providing parking for additional vehicles. Those new houses are built so close together, and it seems like everyone parks on the streets, creating some pretty cramped driving conditions, so anything that gets a few vehicles off the cramped road should be considered.

I don't believe so. In theory you could park 8 smart cars on the property as long as you stayed on the driveway and didn't encroach on the sidewalk.

I'd rather look at this everyday than a weed infested, unmaintained lawn to be quite honest.

It is not allowed under the by-law. These just need to be investigated and enforced.
With respect to trees in new suburban communities, a considerable amount of effort went into creating a new residential street standard for new communities. One of the primary goals was to better enable more public trees - through new utility configurations, and so forth.
