In almost put green text but then I thought, no way this could be construed as serious can it?

Somehow people can get away with truck nuts and furry animals mounted on their cars, nothing wrong with mounting a much classier option to the vehicle.

Correct, your European Style plate is lame sauce.

Can I pre-emptively complain about the loss of of the avant garde like "A" on our plates? And the inevitable placement of that script Alberta mark with the pointless blue box at the end?
Yes, I'm going to complain about the design before I've seen it. Hope I'm wrong.

As a designer, I loved the old-school A and the Alberta logo in general. The new one definitely doesn't have as much character.

Yeah the typesetting on the "wild rose country" line at the bottom of the current plates could be better, but the Alberta mark at the top has so much more character than the current script style one.

No Euro-trash plate style please.
Don't we already have enough of these on the front of crappy cars from the 90's?
You hardly see them on a respectable vehicle.

Also... lol, replace that dreaded "wild rose" moniker with a brazen ad for a government (read: Tory) website. Brilliant!

what newer bc plates are you referring to?
aren't there only standard plates, 'personalized' plates, veterans plates and collector plates available to the general public?

Define respectable please. Pretty much anything with a European license plate around here is an import vehicle, likely from . . . Europe.

I, for one, like 'strong and free' a lot.
Provincial motto. National anthem. Good allround.
Or nothing is OK too. Just nothing cheesy, like remember to breathe

"Europlates" in NA make me laugh. They seem to always be utilised by older guys that can't let it go, or middle age/younger guys that want to be a faux euro. No offence meant of course! I'm sure maybe there are other reasons but that's just what I've noticed. It's just funny to me.
Nobody at home is super into their plates, it's a very Canada/USA thing.

I tend to see them mounted horribly on mid-late 90's Lexus, Escorts, Accords, Taurus, Civics and the odd Jetta.
It's not as bad as giant fart pipes or truck nuts, but it's in the same category of d-baggery.

Fair enough. I'm fighting an uphill battle. Most of what I like in life is European, so I'm just happy to swing to Euro-style things in Canada where I can.
Truck nuts should be outlawed though.

These things are busier than the Flames uniforms, and the blue font on blue background is hideous. Maybe (hopefully?) they were just for the Olympics, however.

Make the basic one free, make a Flames/Stamps, Oilers/Eskimos, and a few other generic ones (mountain theme, ranch/stampede theme) for a fee. Negates the argument of "wasting tax money".
Montana has hundreds of designs from high schools to colleges to quilting clubs. Proceeds go to the state and the plate sponsor. That might be a bit excessive, but certainly something I think Alberta should look at.

I support your idea to get roughrider license plates in alberta. It will make the Alberta gov a ton of money.

Maybe referring the 2010 Olympic plates?
I've never been a fan of the current license plate in Alberta. I was happy to hear they were going to change them a few years back when it was first contemplated. Wild Rose Country doesn't exactly do much to describe Alberta to those who are unfamiliar with it, and I figure we don't need to rely on a 20+ year old design anymore. Hopefully we can get something a little more pleasing to the eyes.

If they want a slogan that is truly timeless, this is the correct option.
In the Herald story, it mentions that people didn't like "Strong and Free" because it sounds too "American". These stupid people shouldn't be allowed a vote. Not only is "Strong and Free" (Fortis et Liber in Latin) Alberta's provincial motto, it's also a lyric in O Canada. It's one of the most "Canadian" phrases there is.
