Why is the poll anonymous?

I voted make it inclusive

Before the YLYL thread, there was the popular "CP Hottie Draft" thread started by Girlysports
http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=57980

and "CP Hottie Draft II"
http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=73919

then the "Male Hottie Draft" (interesting that Peanut and Eastern girl posted and heavily participated in it)
http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=73855

YLYL seems like an ongoing extension of that thread and if anything, those threads deserves as much scrutiny as the YLYL thread

Anyways, considering Girlysports (the godmother of this awesome trend) started this at CP, i'd love to hear her thoughts on all this

Edit: oops... this was already brought up by Minnie and Cali Flames Fan

I think a combination of 1 and 4.

Although discussion what you find attractive shouldnt neccessarily be eliminated as it is very reasonable to say I dont like tatoos and dont find them attractive in a non objectifying way. Its when it becomes nitpicky and judgemental and almost an attempt to gain power it becomes a problem. The Would not Bang meme is kind of the root of it. Degrade attractive women who you dont have a chance with, and claim they arent good enough for you. Essentially it is both objectifying them as objects and then rejecting them as not good enough for you. To me those type of comments fall into the cringe worthy category and that should be the focus of the moderation.

Now it walks the same fine line as pornography and art in that I will know it when I see it. But that line is different for everyone. Discussion of what you find attractive is okay degrading women on the basis of if you find them attractive crosses the line.

The other hilarious part is the Ill get cooties if I see a shirtless guy reaction that occurs on this site. It would be better if the thread could become more ESPN body issue and less sports illustrated swimsuit issue.

And I think that's a lot of what this boils down to. It's not just guys ogling hot women on a thread on a message board. It's not just a few crass comments in said thread. It's the fact that for women--this is a part of every day life. After a while, it all builds up, and then one or more of us get frustrated and it turns into a discussion like this.

And inevitably, you have someone who comes in and complains that we're just hypersensitive girls and how dare we get mad because hey women look at men too!

Then I have to step back from threads that discuss sexism/feminism/misogyny so I'm not that "someone is wrong on the internet" person typing an impassioned rant at 3 in the morning.

Great analogy. Completely agree.

EDIT: Is being "out of thanks" a thing? Because the ability to just thank a post doesn't currently exist for me (or else I probably just would've thanked that post instead of responding lol). Don't want to distract from the thread, could someone just PM me the answer?

While we're on it can we keep the borderline nsfw gifs out of the pgts. I love the gif parade but even with the tags it's really not the place for it.

I did post in that thread. I don't deny it, nor have I tried to deny it. We finally got our own thread and it was fun. We finally got to let loose a little. I don't think we were man hating in there. I don't think we ripped anyone apart in that thread. I think we really were generally appreciating the male form, which apparently is what you guys argue you are going for with the YLYL thread. If that was the point, I just don't think you achieved it, at least in what I saw of it.

Also - our comments were contained within that thread and not within every other thread that we posted in at that time. We posted our pictures. We chatted a bit in a fairly decent manner. It was awhile back, but I don't recall anything too untoward in there. We kept it in one place.

Perhaps I am being a hypocrite here, but I think there's a vast difference between our one thread in 2009 and what the girls on this site put up with all the time, since before our thread and after, all the way to the present day.

It's funny to me that most guys seem to be saying they'd be okay with us ladies having our own thread to post hot guy pics. That's really nice of you guys. It really is, but it's funny to me how it's qualified by saying we can 'have our own thread.' Why do our pictures of hot guys have to be contained within the one thread? Are you guys not comfortable with the idea of us posting hot guy pictures and then commenting on them everywhere on the site, in the same vein that you guys have for years with T&A pics?

You know, perhaps we should fight fire with fire. Perhaps I start posting penis shots in every thread, whether it fits the topic or not, just cause I'm a hot blooded woman that likes a nice penis. It's totally natural. I am sure it's even scientific. So, why am I and the other ladies not doing that?

Because you guys would kick up so much crap. That's science. It's been seen already.

So, why is it okay for you guys to do it? Why is it okay for you to saturate other threads, that have nothing to do with women or sex, with pics of women in various states of undress or with ridiculous comments about women? Why is that okay?

You want to have your girlie pics, so be it. But keep your pictures in that thread and keep your sexist comments off the board entirely. I can't believe that's being met with resistance.

When you say anonymous does this also mean the mod team won't be peeking to see the usernames behind the votes?

I haven't really been to that thread much. I think I posted once in it. I selected leave it as is because the Mod team does a pretty good job at modding behavior. I also would like to believe that once people understand that the things they say matter they might mod their posts themselves.

Maybe the other mods have powers I don't, but I personally am not able to see who voted for what. I believe it is a truly anonymous poll.

I dont think you should fight fire with fire but if you feel a thread about how good Sean Monohan is needs a shirtless pic of Sean Monohan by all means post it. It shouldnt come from a spirt of trolling though or getting back. It should be because you like looking at Sean Monohan while discussing him.

I dont think "You Guys" being the general male population of CP would kick up crap though. A select group would be very vocal about it and the rest would continue on with the discussion. If you look at the Lundquist therad there are a few comments of why is it here but generally cp was supportive of it.

If a movie has Micheal Fassenbender in by all means post a pic of him in it as part of the discussion.

I question weather the extra work for the mod team is worth keeping the thread. Can we expect from now on that posters will follow the rules.

Those are thoughts that go through my head.

That's something for the Mod team to discuss as I don't want to assume upon them, but it is always good to think of them because they do this for the love of it.

People actually did this?

I'm kind of curious to hear the rationale behind it, if anyone who did it is willing to put their hand up and explain.

I voted to get rid of it. It's obvious that it affects some of our members in a negative way. The thread isn't really important. I vote to kill the thread.

On a side note, I think it's crazy as hell that Eastern Girl has to attend business meetings at the local Hooters. Even a complete neanderthal of a boss should be able to see what a db move that is.

My Mistake, I thought you and Peanut were arguing against the existence of that thread. I over looked the part where you felt it spilled over into other discussions

I guess my point is, a thread like that was started by a female and im also curious what that female's pov is in this discussion

I'm all for keeping in that thread and leaving it
