I honestly think it is a formality. Listening to him and B. Burke when asked about it has me convinced they just decided to wait until the end of the season to extend him.

Treliving should definitely be re-signed as I doubt anyone better is available. He's done a lot of good things and has set up the organization nicely going forward. But I don't want him to touch the goaltending situation at all, it's obvious he or his pro scouts can't seem to pinpoint who or what a good goaltender looks like. A new perspective is needed badly.

Anyway, are you saying that the pedigree is useless in determining a situation? Then why do people consider your past work experience when you apply for a job, even if that past experience might not be fully related to the thing you are applying for?
Elliott's tenure in St. Louis was one of the most successful, stats-wise, in league history. You cannot fault Treliving whatsoever for bringing in this guy and barely paying anything for him. It was up to Elliott to perform at that point.

No GM ever bats 1.000, what I see from BT is a young GM who busts his ass to swing deals and is always looking for value. His mistakes are all low liability (minus Brouwer) and he's not too proud to fix his mistakes. Dude is an awesome manager and itd be a huge mistake not to sign him.

A bottom team with the same main ingredients of a second round playoff team.
The last coach was fired for a reason of underachievement and that didn't mean the bar was reset at garbage.

You can lead a horse to water..... something something.
He built a decent team on paper. I say give him another 3 years.

who knows? maybe ownership was waiting to evaluate the entire season and getting swept by the ducks is actually detrimental to his chances?
honestly speaking, it wouldn't bother me at all if he doesn't get brought back. he doesn't have the cajones to go out and use money to plug massive holes on this team. Just tries to use filler plugs on cheap contracts to see if they magically work out.
Ovechkin-Backstrom-Oshie
Rakell-Getzlaf-Eaves
Maroon-McDavid-Draisaitl
and the list in the NHL goes on and on...
Gaudreau-Monahan-FERLAND???
like really? we don't have an elite offensive center to roll a line with a filler RW. This team won't take the next step until we acquire another 30 goal 60 point scoring winger.
Don't know how you get it done....but you have to...
Gaudreau-Monahan-___________
Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik
______-Bennett-__________
Ferland-Jankowski-Versteeg
Unfortunately, one of those spots will be filled by Brouwer...who I doubt we will be able to get rid of......but those are the massive holes on your offensive side of things.
Gio-Hamilton
Brodie-__________
_____-__________
These are the holes on your defence. Bart and Engy got exposed in the playoffs and got spanked every game......and then that leaves your goaltending.
_______-_________
you dont have any.
Conclusion:
we have some great pieces in place but whichever GM now comes in to fill in the roster can't screw it up. this is the biggest and most important offseason in the Flames rebuild.
they HAVE to make moves and bring in GREAT players to fill out the roster.

Let him find a goalie and shore up the bottom 6 in the offseason. If he can find another 1st line winger I think the team is going to be really solid next year.

Not to defend any average/poor moves that Tre has made, but I think sometimes people look at him in a vacuum when deciding if he's the guy for our team. It's one thing to compare him against what you think he should do each season, but you have to remember that most GM's in the league are actually quite average to poor.
Again, that's not to say we should lower our expectations but more to suggest that the grass most definitely isn't always greener in NHL GM land. With what Brad brings to the table in terms of steady, decent moves, mixed with big, calculated splashes I'd stay with that captain on this ship.
Just look around the league to see how quickly a poor/complacent GM can submarine a rebuild and keep a team in mediocrity for years. Believe it or not, this is not a mediocre/failing hockey club.

Iginla's pedigree is great, and Colorado understands that I am sure. It is a factor but not sufficient.
I resubmit my opinion, noting that when Hartley was fired that didn't give the opportunity to reset the bar at garbage.

Below Average goaltending again.
Coach did improve through season. Still out coached in playoffs.
Still a lack of top 6 RWs (Especially 1st line)
Brouwer is now one of worst contracts in NHL -> money could have gone towards a player like Okposo
Went into season with major holes in D
Now I'm not saying he should or could have fixed all those things. I'm just looking at it from Flames Ownership eyes.

I'd give Treliving one more year to fix the goaltending issue, but I can't see him willing to accept a one year contract and I also don't think the owners will allow Burke to offer him anything with term. May lead to a parting of ways.

So, does anyone know when his contract expires?? You would assume we hear news soon with him having to prepare for the off-season

Yes you bring him back, but this is it for him.
He's now got to maneuvre out of his mistakes and use the cap space to find a goalie.

Of course, much better than previous GMs like Button and Sutter.
