Horak was NHL worthy, but with other prospects in the organization, probably was going to be tough for him to crack roster full time.
Brossoit probably a similar story. If Gillies is the goalie of the future, no room for Brossoit.
Smid is a step up from some of our D men. It will probably do him well to get out of that organization.

Why, he's not a post apex player, why do we have have to get rid of him right away? Trading him could be one angle, but having a decent D-man to help manage through the rebuild and that could still be an effective player post rebuild for us is also an angle. Not like he's going to steal ice from any of our D-prospects.

Flames won this trade. Brossoit is a wild card that could leave me eating crow but when you get an NHL top 4 defenseman for 2 expandable prospects you do that every chance you get.

1. Giordano
2. Wideman
T-3. Smid
T-3. Brodie
T-3. Russell
6. Butler
7. SOB
This trade actually helps our depth on the back-end a lot. We added a Top 4 guy without losing anything much really.

I don't understand how people can not like this. We gave up marginal young guys that did not stand out amongst their peers in exchange for a 3.5m top 4 guy who's extremely steady. He's an ideal partner for any of our young dmen, in particular Brodie right now to play next to and learn from.
