Byron's last 3 yrs in AHL
39gp-21pt
67gp-53pt
57gp-33pt
And NHL totals of 30gp-7pt

Loktionov
32gp-30pt
34gp-31pt
29gp-24pt
And NHL totals of 59gp-14pt

If he's a step up from Byron it's not a big one, but there's a huge difference between a 2nd and a 5th.

I think that 2nd pretty clearly was to drop kotalik so the flames would have the space to offer Richards a huge deal.

Regehr + Kotalik was essentially the cap hit of the deal offered to Richards.

yeah, IIRC they initially agreed on Butler and Byron for Regehr. Feaster then wanted to dump Kotaliks contract and had to include a 2nd to get it done.

The way I remember it the initial deal was Regehr for Butler/Byron. Feaster wanted to include Kotalik, Buffalo countered by saying they would take him, but wouldn't include Byron in the deal. Feaster added the 2nd to keep Byron in the deal. So you could say dumping Kotalik was worth a 2nd or Byron was worth a 2nd and you'd be right in either case (at least in how the deal went down.)

True. So I guess as it turns out, a 2nd for Byron was too much, 5th for Lokti is too little, or somewhere in between.
