Seeing Iginla in an Oilers jersey would forever alter my perceptions of him, and I think that's normal. You cheer for a team -- that's not necessarily rational, but you do it, you adopt the colours, the culture, you learn to dislike your rivals. That's part of what sport is about. Its civilized war in some respects. Loyalty is part of the equation when it comes to sports.
Imagine a world where Gretzky at any point of his career signs with the Flames. It would ignite a lot of passion, mostly negative. It is that very passion which drives the league and its revenues. We pay big bucks to go to the games because they are exciting to watch and because we care about the players and the persona they bring to us, wearing "our colours" and providing a sense of shared pride when they win. Losing teams earn less ticket revenues, Leafs notwithstanding
So should Iginla ever sign with the Oilers, so be it, and I wish him the best, however, I'll be among those who drops him down a few notches on my favorite all times Flames list. As in, from 1 to probably around 10. And that doesn't matter to Iginla as a I am a lone insignificant fan, but as a fan I follow my team, and Iginla signing with the Oilers even in his late career would alter my view of his tenure with the Flames.

Granted, Backlund was probably our best player in 2016-17 and being able to play that perfectly in the NHL is a lofty expectation for a floor, so maybe whatever a poor man's Backlund is. 2013-14 Backlund?
Ceiling - uh,
High.

That would be fantastic. I just wonder what wingers he gets. I really don't want him to play 4th line with bangers. How Bennett and Jankowski are deployed is something I'll have my eye on for sure.

Do you think Dougie Hamilton or Troy Brouwer care any differently about the Oilers than any other NHL team. I don't think they do. It's a fan rivalry.
At this point I've gotten rather used to seeing Iginla in other teams sweaters. What would be weird is seeing him don a Flames sweater again.

The 80s BoA games were far more than a manifestation of the fans. The same as a game against any other team? Not even close.

No kidding. I really hope he turns out fine, we could use some more skill in the lineup and it's not likely to happen through the UFA market.

No, not foo. I mean will people make a decision about this being the Iggy thread, the Jankowski thread or an oilers are no good thread!
I really hope he signs with the Flames, I know it was said that he likely needs a year in Stockton but if he shows up and impresses, do you think he could start?

Your only assurance is that this is not a Mark Jankowski thread. Other than that, I can't help you.

That was a lot of off topic stuff to go through when a signing was supposed to be immanent. It's kind of weird how mods sometimes get completely involved in thread derails and other times sternly warn and reprimand posters for doing so.
Anyways, it feels like we have a really great shot at this one, hopefully he chooses today!

Spencer Foo is meeting with his agent, Michael Kaye in Edmonton today and tomorrow and expects to make his decision by mid week.

Maybe he should hold an open courting session at a bar like Justin Schultz or Brad Richards.
Jeez Louise, what a saga for a kid who probably is lucky to develop into a 3rd line player.

The plan is to get out of Edmonton today to an undisclosed location before making his decision, so as to avoid the immanent danger of an inevitable Oilers fan meltdown.

Would be extra sweet to announce in Edmonton that he has chosen to sign with the Flames!

What are Oilers fans actually gonna do? Send the kid death threats? He wasn't even their prospect and was at the Flames development camp. If this was a reversed scenario I wouldn't care, he has no actual affiliation with the Oilers and is more tied with the Flames. People in that city need to take a step back...
Maybe he doesn't want to play for a team that has a history of running players out of town
