The CW is a tv network in the US. It was created about a decade ago by the merger of the UPN and The WB networks. It is co-owned by CBS and Warner Bros. (which is where the C & W come from).
It's tied to teenage drama because that's the type of programming it typically airs. They have mostly quirky dramas with young casts that typically appeal to young (primarily female) viewers. With Riverdale, they now have 5 shows based on comic books (the other 4 are based on DC superheroes).
That was...thorough and comprehensive. Thank you.

wife and I were watching 2 episodes a night of Madmen. had 4 episodes left of series and went to watch it last night and it's been taken off netflix. DAMN!
Anyone have a copy of season 7 they'd let me borrow for a few days? PM me and we can make arrangements
Just from what I looked up, and based on watching the show so far, I don't think it's directly based on a specific arc in the comic but it's definitely based more on that version of Archie (maybe some story elements are taken from it, not the main arc as far as I can tell though).
Either way, I like it. Definitely not surprising in tone, quality, or intended audience if you've ever seen a CW show before. Not a lot different in quality than shows like Supernatural or Arrow.
It's CW. You get what you get.
I watched the first episode of Riverdale and it wasn't what I expected. Didn't really enjoy it but might be worth the watch if it actually ends up like this fan theory, that by the end of the season it will be the start of the Afterlife with Archie comic series. https://www.buzzfeed.com/jennaguilla...o38#.rh9X9zLyb

Mike Birbiglia's new special "Thank God for the Jokes" is up.
I thoroughly enjoyed it, although I don't think it's as tight as some of his previous stuff.
Enjoyed it too. Loved this line at the beginning that so aptly put his comedy in perspective:
“I’m not being falsely modest,” he says, “like I get that we’re all here right now. But I also know at some point this week, you told someone where you were going tonight, and that person said, ‘Who?’”
I've never understood her mass appeal. Her whole "I'm a tramp, that drinks too much" schtick wore out on my pretty quickly, even on Last Comic Standing Season 5. She never seemed to have the wit the great comedians do in my mind. That said, she should teach marketing at the Wharton School of Business. She jumped all over the "I'm proud of my body" movement well ahead before it became mainstream and she was able to build a very large female fan base from that. Didn't even really matter if she was funny from that point. She was set.

Lena Dunham did all of that well before anyone had even heard of Amy Schumer.
Schumer was before Dunham I think. That Girls show didn't even come out until 2012. Amy Schumer first started showing up in 2007 on Last Comic Standing, which she finished 4th I think.
Yeah I gathered. That said, i double down on my comments about Amy Schumer to Lena Dunham. Neither are very talented and feed off a particular fan base that honestly don't care about anything other than the message they originally attached themselves to in my opinion. Some of the stuff Lena Dunham has said and been linked to is deplorable, and it gets brushed off. It's like she's made of Teflon.
