Perhaps there is a trade lined up already or the Wheat Kings dont want to risk injury prior to the trade deadline.

That's got to be it. Why else would he be sitting other than the the number of over-agers?

I read in the Sun the day after the Brandon-Hitmen game that Ferland got injured in the previous game in Edmonton. It also mentioned that the Oil Kings are interested in Ferland.

I wonder if Ferland will be getting moved today. I read a rumor on HF that in addition to the Oil Kings being interested in Ferland, the Hitmen are as well. Would be really cool to see him traded to the Hitmen and see him regularly for the remainder of the season.
I haven't heard any rumors yet, but would Kulak possibly be on the move as well? I am thinking he is returning to the WHL next season, so he may really not get dealt anyways.

Sounds like Ferland got dealt to the Blades.
Source: Michael Ferland has been dealt to the Saskatoon Blades. No word on who is headed the other way.

That's good, he'll get some Memorial Cup experience.

Brandon receives a 1st round pick 2013 in the Bantam Draft for Ferland. Amazing deal for the Wheat Kings - getting a player for only three games and then flipping him for a 1st is crazy. Hopefully Ferland can post good numbers in Saskatoon.

Saskatoon better hope Ferland and company put up good numbers. They just put a second mortgage on a good Memorial Cup championship.
Out went 2 1sts, a 4th, and a 5th. In came WHL veterans.

I was listening to Power Play about an hour ago. The Oil King's GM called Ferland "likely the toughest player in the league".

You just knew he would end up in Saskatoon. His experience with captain Brenden Walker must have been extremely appealing to the Blades. They are starting to shape up into a true threat in the WHL, and hopefully wont get ousted in the early stages and limp into the Memorial cup.

The Blades are pretty hyped about having Ferland. Hope he hasn't lost too much from not playing many games and gets a good start in Saskatoon. Not sure if keeping him in Abbotsford was a good idea but no sense dwelling on the past.

For those unaware, Ferland and the Blades are playing on TV (Sportsnet) against Red Deer.
It's 1-0 Red Deer in the 1st. Ferland has looked pretty slow so far, but he just laid out a huge hit.

I usually hit a few Blades games a year, might have to up that number for the remainder now with Ferland around. Should be a treat to watch.

Just an update....apparently the Blades got a WHOLE LOT better after Ferland was added to the Blades and just last night lost for the first time in 18 games. he has been there for 26 games....29 pts and a +26 playing 1st line minutes.
Hopefully this is a springboard to bigger things ahead. Still love his style and his grit, but he has to get the off ice stuff sorted out and learn to be a professional.

I believe in the Jays.

Also the WHL trade deadline was the focus of last nights "On the Edge: Road to the Mastercard Memorial Cup" the documentary following the Blades around since they'll be the host team this year. So it showed them talking about Ferland a fair bit. Next episode should have more game footage of him upon joining the team (hopefully some "dairy room" sessions as well).

I don't share the excitement in Ferland as other here. The guy was top 10 in league scoring last year with almost 1.5 points per game. Now he is an overage player and he puts up 29 points in 26 games and its exciting? Screw that. That's not impressive at all IMO. he should be improving if anything, Christ he should be outright dominating being a 20 year old in the WHL.

IIRC Beef, he completely crapped the bed his first 10 games in terms of stats.
He had to be 'de-Warded' from his time with the Flames.
