Default Skiing 2016-2017

Between Troutman bumping last year's thread, and me getting caught tenting in the mountains in a snow storm last week, I figured it's time for this year's ski (and board) thread!

Just found out about these last year. Seems like a fantastic deal that isn't really advertised.

Gold package (good for virtually any Canadian hill outside of Whistler) works out to about $56/day of skiing.

https://www.skicanada.org/canadian-lift-passes/

Prices go up a bit Sept 1, and deals are better the earlier you buy.

So, am I understanding that right, that it's essentially a 20-pack of lift tickets that can be used at any resort listed in the "category" you're buying?

What age are the kids? and what are your expectations?
there are loads of clubs out there (i have been with one for 14 years coaching) there are clubs set up for recreational racing, learn to race and full on race programs. the commitment expectations vary as well.
depending on what your athlete is looking to achieve, and what expectations you are looking for, will help you select a club and program that will make you happy as well as your athlete!

Both by daughter and I are very excited for the upcoming season.

She has really taken to skiing the last few years.

The boy gets to go this year with his school.

I now need to find some new skis for the girl. Anyone selling any good used 140ish skis?

No she is 12, and 5'2", but weighs nothing.

She is not too aggressive, will ski blue and some blacks if no moguls.

We don't ski a tonne, she plays hockey so time is limited. We are aiming to get out 5-6 times this year.

Thanks for looking.

Looks like I'll be purchasing the Nakiska pass this year. I hate that hill but El Nina should mean good snow and I'm trying to save so $200 days at sunshine aren't going to fly this winter.

Really hope this precipitation keeps up.

Yeah man that secret special $200 solid gold lift ticket that comes with a hooker and a side of coke sure does put a dent in the wallet.

Seriously how are you spending $200 per day at Sunshine?!

I dunno, but you can buy them at Costco for $75 bucks or something which is what I'll probably do a few times.

Ah yes!

I edited mine, AMA does not sell, although they do discount to Canyon which I will use.

I will have to hit up Costco.

Thanks

All of 2017, I believe.
Anyway, yeah, depending on how many days you're heading out in a season you can easily do a day for under $100 all in. You're really not saving much at Nakiska and it's way crappier.

Nakiska is so lame. I had the kids in lessons there a few years ago and had more fun reading a book in the lodge than riding the hill. I vow never to go back, but I do love their cheap season pass deal that draws some of the riff-raff away from all the better hills. Like COP.

Speaking of COP, I did buy another family pass there. It's a must have for a family. Go after school. Go for a couple hours on the weekend mornings. Two high speed quads and never a line up. It's so fun and it's impossible to not pay off.

Can't wait for Louise, too. A real problem I've been having the last couple of seasons is how expensive accommodation has become in Banff and Lake Louise, though. It sucks that it's so pricey to stay the night. Totally not worth $300 for a crappy hotel room. We have a few nights in Golden booked at like half the price.
