Strip the "A" off his chest and give it to Backs. Sit him with Johnny in the press box for a couple.

Yah we should totally strip the A off the chest of a young player as he's potentially struggling through injur and struggling through the pressures of being a first time captain and a new big contract.
That will totally set him and the Flames up for success long term with this young core.
You only make that move if his performance issues are off ice related or he truly doesn't want the responsibilities. Otherwise chalk it up to growing pains and don't over react.

Lol. Maybe the future GM will get them a proper top line RW after Treliving gets canned.

Honestly I have no problem sitting Monahan for a game if the coaching staff thinks he needs to take time, sit out, watch the game and re-jigger the brain for a bit. Anyone who wants him to sit because he isn't showing enough emotion for their liking is being foolish.

Just the fact that he is being shown up by an 18 yr rookie should be motivation... Girlfriend problems?

Taking the "A" away might be a bit aggressive on my part but he needs to be motivated somehow.

Strip him of the A, bag skate him and then send him down to the farm.
The trifecta of fan-suggested tactics that ALWAYS work.

So you are sure he's not playing well because he lacks motivation?

Agreed.
However, he's trying too hard to be in the right position instead of trying to dictate the play. He needs something to shake him up. A healthy scratch would likely be a big wake up call for him.
However, if he's playing through a bad back, I can forgive it a little, but he still shows what he can do in spurts and then disappears. I don't remember a single positive thing he did tonight, just for example. It's hard to know what to think about him right now, but either way, I'm not happy about it.
8 points in 21 games, and a -11. That's 3rd line center stats at best.
Also, he has just 1 PPG on the year, a stat that is very alarming past the 20 game mark.

He's still on pace for 20 goals this season. If that's a horrible year, I think we have ourselves a pretty good hockey player. He's playing horrible right now but maybe he's just having difficulty adjusting to the new coach. He could also be hurt still. We really don't know, but taking the A away from the guy who many around here had pegged as the next captain seems pretty irrational to me. I have no doubts he'll break out of it eventually.

He did make a very nice centering pass to a wide open Bennett, but it was picked off by a very good defensive stick by a Sabre. He's not good right now, but he'll get better.

Not worth this contract. I'll give him the year to sort Out his #### and find his game. If this continues until the end of the season and into next, I'd consider shopping him for assets while he still has some value.

Whatever, I'm done. He needs to be sent a message is what I'm getting at. He hasn't shown an ounce of improvement at all this season.

He really hasn't shown improvement since his second season. And I'm not just talking points.

I don't know about you, but when I see a first line centre getting paid over $6 million, I'd say 20 goals is a disappointing year if it isn't being compensated by great all-around play.
It's especially disappointing when you see that he hasn't compensated for his lack of goals (or anything on the ice, really) with assists. He's sitting at just 3 on the season. And it's not like he's a great two-way centre. Take Toews for example. He doesn't score much but he's one of the best centres in the game because of all the other things he does right. Monny has been invisible on the ice so far this season.
20 games in, 5 G 3A. I'm hopeful he'll eventually pick up the pace, but yikes.

He never did a thing on the ice to earn the A. It was handed to him because management wants him to be the goldenboy centrepiece of the rebuild.
