Default Brandon Bollig drops some fat and adds some optimism

Quote:
“I feel great. I feel about the same weight, maybe a couple of pounds heavier, but lower body fat. Maybe it was diet — I don’t know. I like to think I train hard and am pretty strict with my diet in the summer, but for some reason coming into camp this year, I’ve felt leaner.

“I was getting that comment a lot in the summer and didn’t realize it until somebody said it.”
From the preseason games I watched, he looks a lot quicker and made some nifty plays on Saturday.

Also nice to read this,

Quote:
“The first thing I did after the trade was look at where Calgary finished in the standings the year before, and I believe it was 28th,” Bollig said. “I was an inch away from going to the finals the second year in a row and maybe my second Cup with the ‘Hawks, and going from something like that to Calgary, where they finished 28th the year before, was shocking. I had no idea what to expect.

“But once I realized the mentality here and the work ethic and everything that goes into how they run things here, I knew there was no way we were going to be in the McDavid sweepstakes.
I'm excited to see Bollig carry his play from the Playoffs into this season.

Well he does have 2 or 3 goals already. And he does seem faster out there. More able to drive quickly towards the net and cause havoc.

Good on Bollig. Sometimes he gets hated on way too much around here.

Bollig looked awesome in the preseason. The game against the Jets in Winnipeg he had a solid 4-5 chances.

Bollig-Stajan-Jooris could be a good 4th line. Certainly some nice signs in the pre-season particularly the good chemistry with Stajan.

I like this story. I like what Bollig brings to the team.

I find it annoying when people moan and groan about Bollig's play without taking into account his ROLE with the team. Coaching staff and management create roles, and different players fill the roles. He does a good job of his role.

And people can say what they want, but the playoffs are still a slightly different beast even in the "new NHL" and Bollig's role and style becomes more important in the playoffs. Last year, his value to the team increased in the post season and he did his role very well. We need him around, even if he doesn't end up playing every night in the regular season.

Indeed. Part of his role is to be able to sit out games while young guys are called up.

You don't want your young developing guys sitting in a pressbox.

Bollig definitely earned a spot on the 4th line based on his pre-season play. He's been great going to the net and generating scoring chances.

Bollig is the kind of guy that you absolutely need in order to win in the playoffs.

He and Engelland are the kind of guys that give the team another dimension in the playoffs, so I'm glad to hear that hes taking his conditioning a bit more seriously, but if hes a healthy scratch in the regular season but brings his A-Game to the playoffs then so be it.

Bollig-Stajan-Jones is the most consistently effective line for me in NHL 16. No idea why.

When I was at the Winnipeg game on Saturday, he was noticeably quicker on his feet than last season. When you can add that element to playing physical, it opens up so many more opportunities. Him, Ferland and Bouma are all now very comparable, albeit a bit less skill with Bollig. I hope he keeps this work ethic up so he can remain effective for us.

Having Ferland, Bouma, Engelland, and a new and improved Bollig will make the Flames much more difficult to play against.

Bollig got a lot of grief in Chicago for many of the same reasons that I've seen posted here at CP...myself, I liked the guy's attitude, versatility, and willingness to play the grinding, middleweight, enforcer role, while still maintaining some hockey IQ, and being able to contribute. Heck, he had better offensive numbers than Burish or Eager had, and was a 4th rotation PK guy, a bonus as the team's 12th forward...

I will always wish him success, and if that success translates to better hockey for my friends here at CP, all the better.

He definitely has the potential for a career in television after his playing days.

Hopefully he replaces PJ Stock or Glen Healy.
