The Flames are missing fast, young, tenacious players in their bottom six. Not old, slower players. Would really hate to see a guy like Hathaway pushed out of the lineup to make room for Doan. Huge, huge pass.

Here's hoping Treliving stays away. Too slow and I just don't see him as a good fit on a 3-4 line. Don't see the appeal at all as to why anyone would want to bring him in. It'll be interesting to see if he gets any offers from anyone.

Also, if they keep it secret and he signs somewhere else in July, it looks like he's giving up on the team and their fans.

I think the Flames should steer clear but I do wonder if this team would be close to the top of Doan's wish list? He has a relationship with Management, Smith, and possibly Stone on the team.

Maybe i just answered my question.
I honestly wouldn't mind Doan on a cheap 1 year deal on the Flames(if Brouwer or someone similar is taken & we miss out on a couple of the better RWer by trade/ufas)
|
Because of the draft. I didn't think it was as big of a deal but he he still holds a grudge. Since that grudge is against the Oilers I am ok with it.
As for Arizona not resigning him I am pretty sure it wasn't a good split, at least with The wonder kid GM.

My prediction:
IF Troy Brouwer gets selected by Vegas, then Shane Doan will sign a 1 year contract with the Flames.
I'm not saying it's what I want, but the connection to our management and the perceived loss of leadership if Brouwer makes his exit would be viewed as something that needs to be replaced.

If that's true, that's incredible he's been holding a grudge against the Oilers for more than half his life.
Almost makes me like him.
Almost.

It might be a long, long time until we see a player play 22 years with the same organization again

With the game getting continually younger and faster, we likely also see fewer careers last that long.
Increasing salaries also likely make it easier for the super talented to consider other ventures (especially if they've accomplished what everyone sets out to).. If we fast forward 22 years, the list if $100M career earners will be staggering vs guys who've even managed 50M today.
I realize it's not all about that for competitive people, but if your body is wearing down and you risk tarnishing your legacy, having a fat pile of cash to fall back on and spending the rest of your days doung something fulfilling / good for your community can't be so bad.

The only older guy I wouldn't mind is Marleau, and that is only because he has good wheels.

Sad that Doan's career looks like it is coming to an unceremonious end. Arizona was the perfect fit for Doan, who from all accounts, is a family man, and prefers his privacy over the spotlight.

Anybody who thinks this was bush league or classless in how they treated Doan here has got it completely wrong.

Do you know how it was handled? All I am going to say is for somebody who was the cornerstone of your organization for so long, a little more gratitude and tact should of been shown from the GM.

No, I don't totally know how it was handled, but they offered him a managerial position within the organization if he doesn't want to continue his playing career somewhere else. Nothing classless or bush league about that.
There comes a point where the Yotes have to do what's best for the Yotes and that means making a hard decision like this. If they keep on keeping Doan because that's what Doan wants then the player has become bigger than the team, and that is something that cannot happen.

Actually they did not offer him a job at all. He was the one that asked Chyka said there are no openings at this time.
