For better or worse, term and $ were exactly what I suspected. Glad he's locked up, but now the clock starts ticking on RNH.

Yikes that is a lot of money. More than I expected. He had a good season and all but this puts him up with players like Ryan Getzlaf.

Seems about right, as long as he continues to produce. But yeah that ties up a lot of coin in two players.

now he's paid to be what he was once (top ten scorer)

if he is, then not a bad contract, but if he dips or has to be with McDavid to get there then he's overpaid by $2M a season.

It's crazy to me that he will almost make the same amount as Crosby, but 2 million less than Toews.

That is the issue here for the Oilers.

He is paid like a "top 10" point producing line driver now but has never produced at that level away from McDavid.

Will be interesting to see if he succeeds when on his own line next year.

same combined cap hit between him and mcdavid and toews/kane.

If chia-pet was smart, he'd have gone ALL in this year, before the mcdavid contract kicks in. If they don't win the cup this year, the roster will require annual cap reductions to sign further RFAs coming.

McDavid/Draisaitl at $21M or Johnny/Money at $13? We can literally afford an extra star player.

As inclined as I am to say it's an overpayment, I think the fact they got the 8 year term makes it a calculated risk. Those last few years will be a bargain. The next few years they'll be able to overpay Draisaitl essentially because Klefbom is underpaid.

Oilers will be pleased. So will everyone else because they're now in cap hell. Win- win.

As a Flames fan I'm OK with that number...21M for McD and Drai combined. 30% of the cap.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Same combined cap hit as Kane and Toews. So, if you think that Draisatl is a top line player then it's not bad for the Oil, infact, it seems fine.

Only in a world in which the salary cap continues to grow at a 4–5% rate. But if we are entering a climate of stagnation or slower growth, this will not be remotely near the same sort of bargain that Crosby's or Malkin's deals eventually became.
