Its going to be very interesting to see how this all shakes out in the end. Usually you have your investors fronting the money, and you have to make a good game (or at least a hyped one) to get the consumer's money, to pay your investors and yourself. Here, they've skipped the investors (for the most part) and have the consumers filling that role. I wonder how product quality will be affected. It could be a positive, could be a negative.

Imagine if Broussard (or whomever was behind Duke Nukem Forever) had raised crowd funded money in 1998 to make that game? What would have happened?

Obviously this game is in better hands, but the public pressure is going to be huge. Releasing modules of the game in chunks could be a good idea as they iron out problems over time, but at some point a game will have to result, and its going to have to be good.

Anyway, I type this but would rather be checking out my own hangar with my own ships. Still, I'm going to wait, at least for now.
I completely understand this viewpoint.

I am quite fascinated myself in how completely crowdfunding a game will alter the final product.

The reason I chose to become an early supporter is that this is my favourite type of game and there are so few of them. I *loved* Freelancer. I just had to support it. I honestly really wish I could go back and be one of the Kickstarter supporters.

Anyway, I respect your point of view Delgar and I hope to see you in the game in 2015.

For some perspective

At some point I will be upgrading my Digital Mercenary pack to the Digital Freelancer pack. That is the ship I want. Deep space exploration!

I've spent enough for a Constellation, but I so far have a 300i, a Cutlass, and now a Freelancer. I think (hope) I'm done, but the Hornet brochure might change that once they release the MilSpec variant(s).

I'm starting to wonder when this funding craze is going to die down. They hit 17 million early yesterday, and today it's already at 17.4. At this rate the game is going to be completely funded by the time the dogfighting alpha comes out in December

I can't see one whole side of my hangar, it just gives weird graphics artifacts of stuff that's visible over top of it.

Well, I just cashed in my Freelancer and went with the Constellation. I've now spent entirely too much money on this game, so I really hope it's worth it.

That said, when I loaded up the hangar module, I was immediately impressed, and happy I got the Constellation. It's big, it's awesome, and I can't wait to goof around with it.

I hate maps like that as a colorblind man. My mind just gives up trying to figure it out and resigns myself to what I like to call completely ignorant exploring whilst everyone else knows pretty much what they are getting into.

A disadvantage? Nay sir, an adventure! (where I, almost always, die.)

The big center blob is UEE (human) space, the left blob is Vanduul (hostile), the bottom blob is Banu (friendly), and the right blob is Xi'an (very guarded)

Vet/original backers, or as I described on the previous page, new backers or people who missed the July 6th cutoff that get a package laundered by a vet/orig backer.

That said, LTI only covers the ships hull, and doesn't give you a new ship immediately after losing one. As well, it doesn't cover weapons, upgrades, ammo, equipment (ie suits), or cargo. All of that will be insurable in-game month to month however, though cargo lost in null sec/0.0 space won't be covered even if insured.

In the last 18 hours, the number of backers has increased by almost 2100.

In the last 79 hours, since the Star Citizen hit $17 million, it has raised over $8000 per hour.

If it wasn't for the increased backer count, I would have assumed a lot of the money was coming from idiots like me who go "eh, what's another $110 on an imaginary internet spaceship?".
