Has anyone been to Thailand recently? I'm going to be in KL for a week, and need to spend the mandatory 'one night in Bangkok'... Or two. However, I heard travel insurance won't cover it because it's under martial law since the junta took power. Should we still go and take the Thailand government's insurance policy? Anything else to be worried about?

You should definitely still go. I've been there a dozen times since martial law was instituted and the only real noticeable difference is that the annoying vendors are no longer allowed to set up shop on the beach in Phuket.

The protests that I mentioned in a previous post in this thread have been over since last summer. There's nothing to worry about there unless the king ever dies, in which case all hell will break loose, but that's all the more reason to visit now while he's still alive.

I understand the benefits of being insured, yet if you find yourself in a Thai hospital at any point for anything less then broken bones or what have you. It will not break the bank. I had my shoulder put back in for about 11 dollars, my sister in law had a prescription written and filled for under 5. These were separate incidents 8 and 5 years ago, so maybe inflation has taken its toll but I doubt it.

As for the coup, I know my provider said they will still cover anything unrelated to the coup (illness etc.) But would not cover things like missing a flight because of checkpoint related delays. I was in Thailand for all of January and was not affected by the junta once.

My suggestions for Bangkok have been covered, but I have been in the south, as well as Cambodia and now Laos since December, so feel free to ask me any questions

Came in for "Chess" references. Left satisfied.

Not sure what the heck that YouTube video CaptCrunch posted was. The singer is muted.
