I just finished a nice 17 km ride through the Northern Hills. I installed a new cassette on the road machine so I figured I'd better try out some hills. As I age, I notice the hills get steeper, so I put on a 13-29 cassette, which is a significant improvement over the 11-23.
Tomorrow will be my first commute of the year so we'll see what happens. I'm thinking I'll take the long route along the Nose Creek pathway vice the shorter, direct route along Centre/4th/Northmount/10th.

FYI, the loop around the Glenmore Reservoir is now pretty much open. The only place there's any significant snow/ice/slush is at the SW corner of the Weaselhead at the bottom of the hill.

I decided at the last minute to take a more direct route than Nose Creek. From Country Hills, I made my way over to 14th and just past 64th, I picked up the path that connects to Northmount and used my normal route to Currie Barracks. I noticed that the 10th St bike lane needs a good sweep.

Pulled my bike out yesterday, took it in for a minor tune up, and rode into work today. I wore a heavier jacket than I should have, I'm going to die on the ride home (thankfully it's a very short commute, just 20 mins). Felt good to be back riding, but I'm still trying to figure out logistics of summer riding when I need to take my kid to camp. Fingers crossed I get that sorted out.

Tomorrow's going to be my first commute in. The kid's are off school for the week so I don't have to be "on-call". I brought in my extra clothes and my laptop is staying here tonight. The cool morning ride is always tough when you have to wear everything back in the afternoon.

I also plan on commuting tomorrow for the first time this year. Does anyone know if the pathway on the McKenzie Lake ridge has been fixed since last summer?

I don't think so. The fence was still up when I tried about a month ago.
The Calgary Bike Path closures page says it's still closed without any timeline for reopening.

Springbank road is completely cleared out, and the gravel is moved to the side as well.
Has anyone been on #22 lately?

I was thinking the same thing - here is the direct link to the closure map:

this will have a negative impact on a strava time
I am on vacation after today, but was planning on starting to ride next thursday

I'm going to the Flames game that night so I doubt I'll be coming back home after work. Keep me posted if you go out another day.

Normally I would be, but my little guy is on springbreak for the next two weeks. After that I could go during the days.

First commute in was good. Much quicker than I've ridden previously.
Other than the hands it wasn't too cold. My regular full-finger gloves didn't do much to keep the cold out.

Sorry, I can't make it on Friday.
On a related note, is anyone interested in tackling the Highwood Pass before they open the road to car traffic? My aim is to tackle it in May.

I'd be in for that. I've only done it once last June but it's a lot of fun and challenging.
