1. I guess it takes time to talk to Boudreau (assuming he's the new Flames coach). It also takes time to carefully evaluate the coaching situation and see who becomes available.

2. I am guessing they were informed, but did not have a lot of impact. Jonny is busy in college at the moment.

Whoa.
Wondering if Quebec is in fact getting a team and this was mutual decision. Perhaps an opening Montreal...

Well, Marc Crawford was looking to get back in the NHL

I think this is a GM being proactive rather than reactive. I predicted Bob would be back in 2016/2017, but be let go halfway through the year. This move is bold, and forward thinking. Treliving now gets to hire his first head coach - something he has yet to do as a GM.

Go big Brad.
This is probably one of the main reasons. It took Brent Sutter a season to correct the defensive deficiencies from Keenan and I imagine Treliving wanted to get the system corrected now rather than later to get them playing a stronger possession game and structured defense.

If Boudreau is the target I imagine that they have spoken already otherwise this could be risky because I don't see a lot of other stellar candidates unless they want to go with a fresh face.

You'll be missed, Bob. Every coach we have had since the Cup run that got fired, I was like "FINALLY". This is the first one who I wasn't sick of.

I just think that the goaltending was terrible this season. We saw what he could do last year with somewhat competent goaltending. I also think he was great at developing our prospects.

I guess this all depends on who we get to replace Hartley.

If Boudreau is hired, expect KK to install a swear jar at the Dome to help finance CalgaryNext.

I liked Bob Hartley - he was an entertaining quote and provided lots of good soundbytes for fans but in the end the team took a step back this year and it was unacceptable.

One winning season out of his four seasons here, and below a .470 winning percentage in the other three here.

With only 1 year left in the contract it was probably time for this to get done. They weren't extending him and you never want a lame duck coach (especially if the players aren't happy to play for him).

Mixed feelings. I liked Bob but he seemed over his head this year. Boudreau will definitely be an upgade. I hope he brings the walrus with him.

I wonder if this starts up the Hartley to Montreal rumours as he's the guy they were interested in before hiring Therrien.

We have some of the best D in the league. But played to the worst...

His time was up...

I can see them being interested in Boudreau, but there is no way they made a snap decision just because Boudreau became available.

Treliving is very methodical and would have been analyzing this for some time.

I don't like Crawford. Hope that isn't the plan, although Burke has a history with him.
