In the first place, Treliving is not an idiot. He has serious flaws as a general manager, but he's not actually unintelligent.
In the second place, Lindholm was never negotiating this deal with Treliving, because Treliving was gone by the time Lindholm was eligible for a contract renewal.
In the third place, someone who missed that is on thin ice calling other people idiots.

Doesn't matter, they'll be gone in the first round. Hopefully, swept.

The Demko injury is running a bit close to playoffs..
Why does "a plan" alleviate concerns? He has to get back and up to speed regardless. Not easy to do when it's straight into playoffs.

I think this is not what we want as Flames fans, since I believe one of the picks in the Lindholm haul improves if the Canucks make it to some point (I'm thinking West finals?). I think the desired outcome is Vancouver losing to Dallas in the west final.

Lindholm plays a quiet game. I don't think he was ever a top 6 player offensively. His numbers were inflated by opportunity (top line minutes, line mates and PP time). I dont think he can produce without that context. That said, he was who we played against the Mackinnons of the league and I always felt confident with him on the ice. No matter where he lands we will be a reliable shut down guy and should be a backlund type guy when it comes to aging gracefully.

This has been debated a fair bit...
Yes, if the Canucks go to the conference final, the 4th becomes a 3rd.
However, if they do, the first will be 29-32. But if they lose in the first round, after winning the division, the pick could be as good as 25th. And if they don't win the division, it could be even better.
So it's a question of which thing you prefer. According to the math, the 1st round pick improving by 2 spots is about equal to the 4th becoming a 3rd. Any more than 2, and it's much better for the 1st to improve - to hell with the 3rd.
Also, we currently hold 2 3rds, and 2 4ths. I would suggest that the Flames end up taking the same player with that pick, whether it's in the 3rd or 4th round.
So I am 100% in favour of improving the 1st round pick
Also, Vancouver is no good - #### them!

The difference in the type of prospect you get between the 3rd and 4th round pales compared to leapfrogging several teams in picking in the first round. It can be the difference between getting a 1st round talent you covet and watching the team a pick or two in front of you getting that player.

Here is the race for the President's trophy - we DEFINITELY want VAN to finish last in this race (points, games remaining).
NYR: 100, 10
BOS: 99, 9
VAN: 98, 10
COL: 97, 10
DAL: 97, 10
(we only need one of COL or DAL to pass them)
There is also the chance that EDM passes them, which would be fantastic for our pick, but #### that, I would rather see EDM burn to the ground.

Sorry, hadn't refreshed my screen for the standings - up to date:
NYR: 102, 9
DAL: 101, 8
BOS: 99, 8
VAN: 98, 9
COL: 98, 9

We discussed that at length in the Chicago PGT. Reasonable people can disagree on what the desired outcome would be; it's a very slight difference either way based on the model we looked at.
I think the only reason the condition is in the trade is to try to mitigate the loss in the Flames' value in case Vancouver does make it that far and the value of the 1st rounder drops.

Really that's probably for the best. Not a lot of good could come from a large Canucks fans gathering on in an outdoor public setting.

After game 1 the Vancouver police literally held a press conference to thank the city for not misbehaving. Hilarious.

LOL, that's ridiculous. Probably makes me evil but I just wanna see how much destruction a 2024 riot would cause.

Looking at Edmonton, these are probably a bad idea in general.
Looks like a place for underage viewers who can't go to bars to gather, get wasted (before or hidden drinks) and fight.
