I would happily pay McDavid max if he was on my team. Oiler fans can fantasize about him getting $10million per year all they want, but it'll be closer to $14million AAV.
His agent should walk into Chiarellis office with 8 x 14 contract already in hand and just say sign here, and Chiarelli should just say yes sir.

You are so right. Both leagues pay athletes to play a sport. Yup so different. What a silly comparison.

I hope Oiler fans keep their expectations for the future high. Expectations are something the majority of their team has never experienced. Hell, high expectations are something Oiler fans haven't had for a long time now.
Its been too long since they felt real disappointment, we should try help those expectations stay impossibly high.

he can win, he'll get the money he wants and he has a lot of friends on this team
but your evidence is a single picture taken the second his life changed lmao

Look, an existing team will always have an advantage in re-signing a pending UFA, simply because of the huge negotiation window and players' reluctance to relocate (which is why guys who have moved before via trade are more likely to move as a UFA). But big salary demands, limited budgets, crappy locations and winning prospects will all play a part. I'd put the odds at a re-signing at 66%. But only if the Oilers pay top dollar. There will be no discount.

That isn't what I'm saying.
NBA and NHL aren't the same because you don't usually see superstars walk as UFA.
I can't remember the last big name to walk as a UFA coming off an RFA deal.

What? They've been touted and believed they were a Stanley Cup favourite entering the season for half a decade now. This was just the first year that their insane expectations weren't absolutely laughable.

I have an honest question.
What is stopping the LVGK from making a close-to-max offer sheet for McDavid?

There isn't anything stopping anyone? Other than the fact he isn't eligible for that yet.

The Oilers caught lightning in a bottle and it will be hard to replicate the success they had this year. A lot of this year was built on zero expectations which is going to change next year.
The one thing I will give them credit for is that they have made some strides in the mental parts of the game. They didn't flail uncontrollably when things went south as they did in previous seasons. They played with confidence for most of the season, which isn't something we have seen in a decade.
Things did go pretty smoothly (I didn't think they faced much adversity through the regular season) so it will be interesting to see where they pick up things next year. Hopefully they read and believe in all the media hype.

With the collision course that the NHL and NHLPA are heading towards. And McDavid being the bar setter as far as contracts go there will be tremendous pressure for McDavid and his agent to represent (Yo) the NHLPA's mandate.
I think it will only go two ways, either they walk to the table with an 8 x max (14) and negotiate to 12. Or they walk in with a 6 year x 12 and negotiate to 11 which allows him to maximize his value through UFA pressure.
I highly doubt that there will be anything under 11 on the table.
I don't doubt that Draisaitl will either sign an 8 x 7.5 or 5 x 7.
If Tavares gets 10 mil by 8 McDavid who is a huge step better all ready according to everyone will get more.

I expect that Las Vegas or Carolina are in the best position to go big game hunter.

They got outstanding goaltending from Talbot who almost never faltered, they got ridiculous offensive output from McDavid and Draisaitl, they got the easiest schedule in the entire league and suffered essentially no key injuries.
The stars aligned for the Oilers this year. This is likely as good as it gets for them.

We are all keenly aware of that fact.
Oh wait, you were using that fact to brag about how good your team is?
