Is a 2 year entry level contract pretty standard for guys coming out of college?

Just a sample of tears from Edmonton (for some reason the thread had a long discussion of each teams defense to start):

Quote:
Hamilton is good but not great. He has his ups and downs.

They paid a premium for Hamonic. The type of premium you don't pay for that kind of d man.

Hamilton needs sheltering to be effective. I take Klefbom and Larsson at their price tags any day of the week.

They keep spinning their tires. They're mortgaging their future for no sure things and it's going to bite them in the butt.
And for Foo:

Quote:
He's an AHL player and not as good as Caggulia. It's not gonna be a big deal.

Wait until Conor skates circles around him a few times and he'll be like, coulda, woulda, shoulda.

Who else didn't care?

Would rather have a player fight for a spot than wanting a given one.

Seems like he was looking for the easiest way into the NHL. Can't blame him, but he made a conscious choice to be a loser so it is what it is.

If he ever cracks the lineup he'll regret it when Lucic, Maroon and Kassian all crush him and McDavid skates around him like a pylon.

Likely. Of course, details won't be announced until July 1.

Doesn't matter where they are coming from.

It is all based on age as of September 15 in the calendar year they sign

18-21 3 year ELC
22-23 2 year ELC
24 1 year
25 or older doesn't qualify for ELC (except for euro players ages 25-27 who sign 1 year ELCs)

How are those related in the least? Larsson was a good trade for the Oilers and the Hamonic trade was a good trade for the Flames. Lucic was a good signing in the short term at least and Foo hasn't done anything yet, the AHL is littered with NCAA signings that haven't panned out.

Yeah, tying Foo to the hamonic acquisition is a pretty enormous leap.

My wife is an Oilers fan. I'm a Flames fan who's living outside the bubble of YYC and the CP. I just thought this thread needed a splash of logic and common sense to those creating a narrative that this decision had something to do about cities. My sincere apologies to those penciling the kid on our top line next season.

From watching the highlights and reading the scouting reports I think he is perfect to fit with Bennett and Lazar. All 3 guys are the type to push the tempo of the game, pounce on mistakes, and capitalize. In all honesty Bennett's offence has been underwhelming at the NHL level and after rewatching his junior highlights he was a pretty selfish do it all himself to be the hero kind of top prospect. Part of his lack of success in the NHL so far is because there aren't any Flames that are reading the forecheck or anticipating turnovers with the speed to join Bennett on an odd man rush. I think Lazar and Foo bring the speed and greasy offensive battle that will compliment each other. Watching the 2017 NHL playoffs these guys motor reminds me of Arvidsson.

The fact that it's the old version means it was probably 40% of at the nearest Sportchek. Maybe more if it says Smid on the back!

Doesn't seem to be the general theme of the discussion outside the occasional poke at Edmonton. But yeah, much "needed", thanks for helping out

im making fun of the oiler fans that like to pretend Hall was trade for Larsson AND Lucic.

“He’s greasy,” Starman said. “He just does a lot of little things that are fun to watch. He’s got electric speed, hands, guts. He’s not afraid to try something difficult. He’s been good. He’s just fun to watch and he plays with an edge.”

“That consistency has been very important because it has allowed the younger players to see that through consistency breeds success,” Union coach Rick Bennett said. “Spencer is one of the hardest workers in practice each day. Hopefully, that resonates throughout the year and when he moves on. My hope is that my younger players emulate his work ethic and consistency.”- Joshua Seguin www.collegehockeynews.com

If Andrew Mangiapane has The Sports Corporation as an agent, that jersey might be from the 2015 draft. It'd be about the right size.

I get why a lot of people are suggesting him as a linemate for Bennett, but he screams Gaudreau to me. He is really adept at give-and-goes, which is Gaudreau's forte but Johnny is still hunting for his partner on that front since Hudler left.

I am not giving him the spot without earning it, but I think he will. And the lines I like (once that happens) are:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Foo
******* - Backlund - Frolik
Tkachuk - Bennett - Ferland / Lazar

For me, this balances the lines out much more

and there are lots of candidates for the Backlund line

Even better, Ladi Smid is one of their clients.

Johnson, Kulak, and Versteeg too, so they've probably been talking to Treliving quite a bit over the last few weeks.

Doubt Foo makes the club. HIGHLY doubt he has been promised a spot

Corban Knight got full bonuses, a jersey number, and a press conference. Got sent down, and that was before "always earned, never given"
