Default Birdnest in kitchen hoodfan vent

Hi all,

I am dealing with a situation where think I have a birds nest inside the hood fan exhaust vent. I hear the birds chirping and I see a little straw from the outside.

The vent is obviously outside and my house is a walk out so I don't have a good ladder at the moment to have a better look.

Anybody have any experience with this? Anybody know of any services that would look after this in a safe manner for all involved?

Thanks

Jarrod came by earlier this year to deal with a mouse problem, and it was quick and easy. Billing is all online, and he accepts credit card. Give him a call, I'm sure he can find a safe solution.

Cheers

If you have a shop vac and can pull the pre filters from underneath the hood and can get the hose in anywhere past the fan you may be able to clean it yourself.

You may need to pull the whole hood to get to the end of the vent .

It'll be poopy and stinky and you might still be able to get birds out alive .

I offer vent cleaning they my business but always try and encourage people to dyi to save some money.

Had this happen to me a few years ago.

I recommend Randy from Caskade bird control, was an awesome guy and solved my problem right away and also put up netting on the outside so it couldn't happen again.

One thing that can be easily done to prevent this is to go to Home Depot and get some wire mesh, cut it is a square slightly larger than the vent and then wrap it around the siding framing around the vent.

The stuff I got was pretty malleable, so it was easy to work with my hands.

I wish I knew that before the birds moved in.

Do you mind sharing how you resolved this? Looks like I have the same problem. I heard some chirping from my main floor bathroom fan this afternoon. Went outside and threw a rock at the vent and a bird (looks like a sparrow) flew out. The height of the vent is probably 15 feet or so from grade.

I will be 100% honest and say I haven't actually actioned this yet. I have been swamped during the day and haven't had a chance to check CP and follow up pn the recommendations offered in this thread and the other one from a while ago.

I just came here to have a quick look at the companies listed and I saw you needed help too. I will let you know how I make out, good luck on your end!

We had some birds nesting in our bathroom vent. The wife and daughter thought it was pretty "cute" until it started to stink up the house.

On top of the poop, they don't all live...know what I am say'in.

I waited till all the birds had left the nest. Then I got up on a ladder with a shop vac and various implements and cleaned it all out. Then I did what NEZ did, made a wire mesh cover and put it over the vent. Hasn't been a problem since.

Other houses in the neighbourhood though, they either don't know or don't care...but every year there are birds in in their vents.

I can lend you a ladder if that's your biggest obstacle to getting them out.

Had the same problem, used the shop vac and wire meshed all the outlets on the house, and bought covers that actually close.
