Default Stampede Suggestions

I will be in town for a bit over Stampede week and looking for an idea to take a few O&G clients out.
There will be 7 or eight of us. The rodeo was ruled out so I was leaning to finding a beer gardens or something similarly casual to have a few drinks and take in the scene.
I don't mind spending some cash but would like to avoid wandering around looking for a place or standing in line for an hour. As well, prepaid tickets increase the chances that everyone shows up.

I am leaning towards Tuesday after lunch.

Any suggestions?

Wildhorse tent would be a good bet. Downtown location and a bit of a better crowd than the grounds or Cowboys tent (more corporate).

You can also buy entry in advance as well as drink tickets.

Why was the rodeo ruled out?

Should be easy to get into pretty much everywhere that time of the day on a Tuesday. Wild horse tent is my favourite off Stampede grounds spot. It's huge.

Depends on what you want to do

There are lots of tent concerts happening as well.

Plus the bars just off of the coca cola stage.

Is the crazy lines just weekends and Thursday/Friday night then?
I am happy to just show up to Cowboys/Wildhorse or the grounds if we aren't stuck in line.

Go stand on the tarmac for the chucks, drink beers, and make loonie bets.

It is by far the best activity to do during Stampede and it is not even close.
-It's relatively cheap because you pay standing room costs but the experience is 1000x better than sitting in a chair
-You get the big tent type feel because you're standing around on concrete surrounded by people with beers in your hand, but instead of being in a big freaking tent you're actually on the grounds taking in the chucks
-If you feel so inclined, you can keep drinking and catch the start of the Grandstand show from right up close while the chucks crowd filters out. Then you go find a bar to go to in the relative lull.

If you want to go to a bar I recommend that Palomino. Rarely a line because the place is way bigger than most people think it is with that massive basement and patio out back. Plus BBQ.

^ if you're going to do rush seating tickets for the chucks, go under the tunnel to the infield. Smaller lines for absolutely everything over there. And you're so close to the barrels and the finish line. But if they aren't interested in the rodeo it may not work.

Chucks are my favourite part of Stampede.

You're allowed in the infield with standing chuck tickets?

Won't be many lines if you are looking at Tuesday after lunch.

Yeah! And most don't know that so I always try to bring it up. Even if you ask when you buy tickets, 5/10 times they will say you can't (because they are young and just working a summer job haha).

But 100% you can. I sit in the front row of the infield every night. So close to the barrel action, then you just watch the rest of the course on the big screen.

Wildhorse has a private event until 6PM on Tuesday.

I'd do Cowboys tent after lunch if I were you, should take 5 minutes to get in. The back patio area makes Cowboys a much better tent than Wildhorse anyways IMO.

Matt, I see your suggestions into weekdays, but if you can do next Saturday, I highly recommend the Dogie Do Rodeo https://www.cpccalgary.com/store/dogie-do-rodeo-1

The Rodeo, is participant driven. You and your friends ARE the rodeo. Please give the website a peek, and if you have questions fire away.

Disclaimer; I volunteer with the group that puts it on. Our profits, go towards Big Brothers & Sisters, and the Special Olympics. YOUR good times, are helping to give future good times to those less fortunate. And I feel it's the best event of the entire Stampede.

I have only heard terrible things about the Dogie Do Rodeo. And by terrible, I mean fantastic stories of the night followed by regret in the morning.

If I could make the date work I would sign up for sure.

You think she would have room to fit them all in on such short notice?

Dogie do certainly isn't as good the last couple years. Still haven't decided if I'll make it this year. Still a decent time though.
