polak is right, though.
people are transferring their hate for Edmonton and the oilers to Mcdavid and not being objective.
look at jay randoms comment for example
"If I'm in McDavid's skates, I'll be waiting for an offer sheet that takes me exactly to my first year of UFA status, minimizing the length of time I will have to spend in Edmonton when they match. I suspect there are a number of GMs in the league who are more than willing to do McDavid that favour, figuring he may remember them fondly when he does get a chance to pack his bags and leave a dog of a franchise in a doghouse of a city. "
I don't doubt that's what JR thinks, but I don't believe that's going through McDavid's head. he's getting paid no matter what. money isn't the issue.
You know what would make McDavid want to leave Edmonton? losing.
If Edmonton continues to improve and finds some success, McDavid will be willing to stay. doesn't matter if it's Edmonton or anywhere else, competitive players want to win. When he's an UFA, he's not leaving Edmonton because he might dislike the city, he's going to go where he feels he has the best chance to win the cup.

McDavid isn't chomping at the bit to leave Edmonton anymore than any of our players, He's not going to sign some crazy deal that will handcuff his team forever, and teams have in fact been able to and usually do win cups with a generational talent and unfortunately none of those teams have really had an issue surrounding them with a supporting cast. Hell, Pittsburgh has had TWO on their team for the last 10 years.
I'm all for beaking the Oilers but the mental gymnastics in this thread trying to justify how having the best player to join the NHL in the last 10, 15, 20 years is some how a bad thing doesn't look great.
|
so, he could settle for 10 mil x 8 years. Leaving about 4 mil per year on the table x 8 years. You are saying he will leave $30+ million on the table for the love of Edmonton?

At the very least, why would McDavid's agent not walking into negotiations saying I literally want the max for my client? Oilers need Mcdavid more than every other team needs anything.

This is more accurate.

Crosby's second contract was only five years and it comprised over 16% of the salary cap the year it was signed.
He signed his third contract with a very reasonable cap hit after a Stanley Cup championship, another trip to the SCF, and five consecutive years in the playoffs.
McDavid will be the highest paid player in the NHL in 2018 by a wide margin.

Also, it has a significant back-diving portion over the final three seasons when he'll be over 35 years-old. That's not an option for McDavid.
If Crosby's current contract was an 8-year deal, it would have a cap hit of $10.8 million.

Poolparty's having a rough go of it in the AHL. Healthy scratch recently, comes back and plays so poorly the coach sends him to the locker room midway through the first not to play again.

When interviewed his comment was something along the lines of "Tiesin Flames olivat pelissä ja halusin päästä pois jään, jotta voisin mennä pukuhuoneeseen ja katsella Tkachuk suosikkini pelaaja."
(rough translation)
I knew the Flames were playing and I really wanted to get off ice so I could go to locker room and watch Tkachuk my favourite player.

Wait but Oiler fans are saying he's figured it out and he's getting passed the lauguage barrier and starting to dominate down there. He's the McDavid of the AHL.

Actually it is scary to think about how good the Oilers would be if they had selected Tkachuk instead of Poolparty.

You put him with eberle and Hopkins and you have a defensively responsible gritty guy feeding the other two. We got ridiculously lucky at the draft having him passed on twice

Didn't it come out later that Treliving was trying to move up to get Tkachuk? Everyone including Chia thought he wanted Poolparty.

Wait, but if you read this weeks Hockey News, the Oilers have the greatest prospects ever. Literally blow the Flames out of the water, prospects wise.

Not sure if this has been posted.
Back to backs , playing rested or tired teams for the 2016/ 17 season.
Confirmation that Oilers have the easiest schedule in the NHL this season at plus 11.

It's equally as scary (for oilers fans) to think how terrible the Oilers would still be if they hadn't fluked out and won the McDavid sweepstakes.
