With all the critical acclaim and Emmy nominations I wonder if Fargo will inspire more TV/Movies to be filmed around here. It's the first big name series or movie I can remember that was filmed entirely in this area with so much of the city easily recognizable

2nd season will take place in 1979. That will be interesting.
The second season, like the first, will be shot in and around Calgary. “We have quite a large area in and around Calgary to explore, so we will find our Sioux Falls there,” EP Warren Littlefield said.

More in-depth interview and panel answers above. I'm definitely excited that they are coming back to Calgary for filming. I can see some locations in Okotoks, etc. as being good locations for Sioux Falls and there are certainly a lot of 50's-70's era stuff they could film in town if they are creative. Hopefully that will get around the issue of obvious Calgary skyscrapers (like the Bow) showing up in the series when it's supposed to represent small Minnesota towns. That bugged me a lot last season.
"We will be going back to Calgary and that's where we'll be based. We really have quite a large area in and around Calgary to explore that we haven't explored," Littlefield promises. The base will be Calgary and they'll create a world in and around that."

It's a huge Emmy win for best miniseries and outstanding direction in Fargo, but realistically it was robbed of at least one more. Also won a Creative Emmy for outstanding casting last week.

It was just a quick thank you to the crew in Calgary, not actually anything to do with the city itself

5 nominations for Fargo at the Golden Globes tonight, more than any other show. Globes start at 6 tonight on NBC/CTV.

Any ideas when / if the next season will be casting local extras again?

I'm not entirely sure how it works, presumably they'd first try to call whoever they had before and if they need more hold more casting. If anything comes up I'll post it in here.
Also, Fargo is off and running at the Globes, best miniseries and Best Actor to Billy Bob, beating out Matt McConaughey in True Detective... holy crap.

At the post-awards ceremony, the producer mentioned they were filming on a 2000 acre ranch or something. Season 2 is set in 1979 so it'll be interesting what Calgary/AB locations they are going to use.
Also, from the writer's Twitter, he has posted these location pics. Anybody have any idea where they are?
Season 2 cast is rumored to include Ted Danson, Patrick Wilson, Jean Smart, Nick Offerman, Kirsten Dunst, and Jesse Plemons

2nd pic looks like sheep River or highwood River, before they connect and feed into the bow. East of Okotoks, East of highway 2.
Thats my guess since that's where I saw a set last year

It's the Bow somewhere west of Carselsand. The right/up side of the photo is south facing because of the shade and coniferous trees. You can just make out the Highwood in the background on the right side.

They are going to be filming for about 3 months in the Fort MacLeod area as they have announced the request for extras

Looking east. The Aerospace Museum is on the left and the Port O'Call Inn is on the right, behind the ball diamonds.
