Awesome stuff. And none of the points in this game were scored by AHL vets.

- Kylington, second-year AHLer and 19-year-old scores the go-ahead shorty. (not the GWG, but ultimately the playoff-clinching goal)
- Rittich, legit NHL prospect and AHL rookie, goes 33/34 in what basically amounts to the biggest game of the year
- Jankowski, first year AHLer, wins the race and battle on the ENer to keep it in the Condors' zone
- Lomberg, second year pro, first year AHLer, who starts his first NHL contract next year, scores the ENer through sheer determination (also the GWG)

A ton of character shown by this Stockton team that was pretty much out of it in January. At their age, one might even argue they had no business being in the playoffs as I think they are the youngest team in the entire AHL. Yet here they are, and they did it with minimal vet contributions (though having Kostka definitely shored up their PP).

Hopefully now they find another gear for the playoffs.

This was a 4 point game with the Condors three points back and only one game remaining after this for both teams who were fighting for the final playoff spot in the West.

If this went to OT, even if the Condors won OT, Stockton would have held a two point lead with tiebreaker, and could afford to throw the final game and still clinch a playoff spot.

Bakersfield needed to not only win this game, but win it in regulation just to stay alive.

Color me impressed. Looked like they were cooked with that mid season losing streak.

Well done Heat.

What a way to finish the season - especially when anything less means you miss the playoffs.

Not only were the young guys the difference in this game, but the young guys-who actually may play in the NHL (Janko, Anderson, etc.)-have been making a difference all year.

Nothing against Agostino-he would have helped the Heat-but I feel better with the Heat making the playoffs relying on younger guys.

Good on the young ones. I hope they go far! How nice would it be to follow two good playoff runs in our organization!

The schedule for the first round of the playoffs has been released:
  1. Fri, Apr 21 : 8:00 pm MT @ San Jose
  2. Sun, Apr 23 : 4:00 pm MT @ San Jose
  3. Fri, Apr 28 : 8:00 pm MT @ Stockton
  4. Sun, Apr 30 : 5:00 pm MT @ Stockton *
  5. Tue, May 2 : 8:00 pm MT @ San Jose *

It looks like the end of the Heat-Barracuda series will overlap with the start of the Flames-Sharks series, which could make for a fun road trip.

He was recalled on November 11 and returned on February 20. The resurgence began when he returned.

Hey is a keeper IMO, great chance here to assert himself and lead a team against a much tougher opponent in SJB. Janko and Hathaway have been lights out with honourable mentions to Mangiapane and Klimchuk.

wranglers Who to watch

Quote:
You heard Head Coach Ryan Huska say it last night, but expect the regular season finale to feature a lot of brand new faces for the Stockton Heat including a couple players who could be making their pro debuts tonight.

That’s why tonight the who to watch will be Matthew Phillips and Cam Braes. They’ve both been practicing with the team for a little while now, Braes since his season ended in championship fashion for his University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds (UNB) back on March 25 and Phillips since his Victoria Royals were ousted from the Western Hockey League playoffs back on April 7.

Braes won three Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) championships during his time at UNB and in the championship game against the University of Saskatchewan, Braes scored four of his team’s five goals in the 5-3 UNB win.
