anyone follow this case? A girl from Trois-Rivieres disappeared in 2007. Sadly her remains were discovered in December 2015. Incredibly, the main suspect since 2008, was arrested when Police seized his computers and discovered child pornography on them.
The suspect, Jonathan Bettez, was the Manager of his family ru business. He was well off, and a member of soccer clubs, and the Chamber of Commerce for years in Trois Rivieres. He was 26 when Cedrika went missing.
This proves that child killers are not the "boogeymen" we believe them to be. This individual is evil, but look at his appearance, and success in life. Hard to be;lieve he would throw it all away to kill a 9 year old girl. I wish we could find what is wrong in their brain, so as to give them medication to control their urges. Pedophilia is weird.
Nobody thinks that Pedos fit into a singular category. They're not all hairy potbellied guys in trench coats hanging out near schools. They look normal and that's what makes them scary because what they do is pure evil
And its not about satisfying a physical need, its about filling their mental needs as well. To assert power, to conquor whatever it is that drives their twisted little minds.
Controlling ones physical urges isn't a cure. If it was that simple and this is going to sound crass, society would have come up with a medical regime for homosexuallity in the 50's and 60's and especially around the time of the Aids "Epidemic" when homophobia was it its height.
They even tried using sulphor and saltpeter on prisoners to reduce prison rape, but it did nothing.
To me you can't cure pedophilia, at the end of the day the best thing to do is to protect society and the vulnerable from them, preferably by using geography, I hear the arctic circle is nice at this time of year.
And no, before you all jump on me for saying that homosexuality is a disease or something like that, I'm saying the opposite. You can't medically change a person's sex drive and orientation chemically because its more then just physical urges and chemistry its who they are.
Pedo's can't be cured because it goes beyond chemistry.

Some 'pedos' can be cured in as much as they can be taught techniques to repress their inappropriate thoughts and behaviours. in much the same way that we can help some addicts supress their addictive urges, like addicts there are some, many actually, who repress this side of their nature fro so long it is no longer really part of them.
There are also many who cant or wont, and clearly its not an exact science.
We treat it in almost exactly the same way we treat addiction, group work, cognitive therapy etc

What makes you think they're not far from charging him with murder? It's been 10 years and as far as I can tell, no new evidence to suggest they're close to charging him with murder.

He will slip up. He cannot control his urges, as evidenced by his viewing of child pornography.
While we are on the topic, Jacon Wetterling was found at about the same time. He was missing since 89' sad but Police zeroed in on his killer just a couple of months later. For reasons, unknown, they let him go, and the case died. Fast forward to 2015, and the man gets caught with child pornography, and leads detectives to Wetterling's body, in exchange for 20 years in prison.
It was a case that changed rural Minnesota. It was big news when I was a child.
