Default Darryl Sutter Quotes

A lot of funny stuff, but I thought this was informative (interpret and extrapolate as you will... ex: backup goalies)

http://lakingsinsider.com/2013/03/13...ill-retention/

Quote:
Sutter, on why some players remained at the hotel while the 10 players listed above skated:
“Guys who played too many minutes, and kids who don’t play enough minutes. Other than Fras, it’s a bunch of guys that need significant skill development. What happens – very simple, that’s when they’re not practicing. It’s like you guys. You had a bad first game, too, right? [points to broadcasters and members of the media] Didn’t practice all summer. Very same. But you understand what I’m saying? These guys are the very same. You guys take two months off, you’re not as sharp, either. These guys take two or three days off, their skill sets, the little things, eh? Skate, shoot, pass – all those things drop off. Same as me, right? I used to be able to write with both hands. Now I can’t write with my left hand anymore because I don’t practice it. It’s true. It’s very simple. They’re kids. Every night you look at it – youngest team, youngest team, youngest team, so you rely on energy and repetition and trying to pull that out of your players.”

I used to love listening to Darryl talk on the fan with Mike Rogers, Rob Kerr, Peter Maher and Cassie Campbell.

Want to know what matters in a hockey game? Listen to Brent and Darryl speak.

Yup, nice and simple and makes sense, but really makes you feel like you got something out of it. I know a lot of posters here love to make fun of Darryl's broken english (i.e. posting pictures of him making silly faces) and treating him like a ######ed person, which was very insulting... but they are mistaken, Darryl is a very very cognitive man. He might not use big, fancy words like new management but his understanding is solid.

He doesn't talk a lot but actually says something when he does and his actions stand tall at least usually.

the most exciting interview ever was when he brought in JayBow. I think between the two of them they said 20 words.

He isn't a man of many words but when he talks, it's worth listening to.

I like what he says even when he has nothing to say :

http://lakingsinsider.com/2013/03/13...tyler-toffoli/

Quote:
Sutter, on Toffoli’s 28 AHL goals and his current status:
“The American League is the second-best league in the world. This is his first year out of major junior hockey. He was having a good year. We have a roster spot while we’re playing 10 games in 14 days, or whatever, and if we need a player, it’s too difficult to get a player from [Manchester]. It would be totally useless for our organization to fly a guy from Manchester to San Jose today to play tomorrow. It’s hurting the player. So I’d rather have the player available here. I don’t know if he’s going to play one minute, or if he’s going to have two practices. I couldn’t tell you that. He didn’t take somebody’s spot. He’ll have to earn it at some time. So the ‘fascination’ – there is no fascination. He’s 20 years old. He’s got lots to learn. I remember being in his shoes, too.”

Sutter, on Toffoli getting good coaching:
“He gets it there, too. He gets it all there. But it’s a different level, right? He hasn’t experienced it, right? So it’s no different than when we had Campbell up here. We had room…It’s the very same. So I didn’t hear anybody talk about the ‘fascination’ then. Quite honest, I’m not going to answer any more questions about Tyler Toffoli, because he’s the 14th forward on our team/"

I can't find it or remember it exactly but back when he was with the Flames he had a killer quote that had something to do with playing in the pacific time zone and how by game time most of the guys are "ready for their jammies". It got a chuckle out of the reporters and he said something along the lines of "serious, most of these older guys, by the time 7 pacific comes around, they're in their pj's, they're ready for bed". I laughed about it for a long time, my brother and I saw it live and mimicked that one for months.

I wish I could find the exact quote. Anybody remember this?

Jermaine Franklin: What are the trade prospects looking like?
Darryl Sutter: We are not trading any prospects.

They do? "A lot" of posters?

I can't remember this ever happening.

Maybe some thought he was gruff and unwilling to say much to the media, but mocking and treating him like he's ######ed?

I was trying to think of a scenario where people made fun of Sutter and mocked him for being ######ed. Can't think of one.....

I'm pretty sure everyone on this board knows that Sutter is an intelligent person, it's been said countless times. He also has a great face.

He was the man of about 1,000 different and entertaining faces.

He is a down home kind of guy whose hockey iq is off the charts.
