Brian Burke on Tim & Sid
Can't say that I've warmed up to Tim & Sid just yet...but this was a great interview yesterday.
As tentative as I was when Burke was first hired, I gotta say that he's one smart dude, and I'm happy he's around.

Tie the tie or just forgo it all together, Mr. Burke. The draped tie look has to go.

Thanks to OP. This would be the third detail interview of Burke I've seen. I can't say enough how entertaining and interesting they are, always. As a viewer, you have no doubts that the man is speaking from the heart. Exact opposite of the Feasterspeak, which was usually nothing to remember thereafter.
One thought though: if Burke hates ties so much, why does he keep wearing them at all? It's not that anyone would reprimand him for not wearing it or even care if he doesn't. I suspect he just likes wearing them as scarves.

It's kind of the image that he has cultivated. The fact that he planned it for the show is kind of contrived. If he is doing the tie thing on purpose he needs to get the comb-over hair flap thing going as well.

I love the tie thing because you know at this point he's just trolling the people out there (like those in this thread) that can't stand it.

I like the draped tie. I'm hoping he popularizes so that it becomes socially acceptable.
The fact we still have to wear nooses at all is ridiculous. First draped ties. Then Mandarin collars. Then golf shirts under blazers. Then just golf shirts.
Golf shirts: nature's perfect men's apparel.

Haha, I thought this thread would be a link to comments Brian Burke made about Tim Erixon and Sidney Crosby!

Totally what I thought too.
I reckoned it must have been one hell of a non sequitur.

I love his new, draped tie/slicked hair/big chew look he's rocking lately. Going full Slick Rick.

-talk about bluejays (he texts or talks to Alex) which lead into the four stages of teams crawl, walk, run, sprint. Not every team is in that sprint category so if you are you have to go for it.
-credit for last year goes to Gio, Treliving, Hartley and Feaster.
-Talked about analytics being the third prong (after eyeballs and extensive background checks).
-talked about how valuable playoff experience is.
-Thinks even with Gio they lose against ducks.
-McDavid not going to change the way they are going to build the team which lead into a conversation about how the oilers are built. Rewarded constantly for failure. Would like to implement something that stops teams from constantly getting rewarded for failure ie only draft 1st once every other year or top five for three years. Mentioned Holland by name as a person that is analytical thinker and would be a good person to come up with a formula.
-Hates 3 on 3 but its better than a shootout. would rather do two on two than shootout.
-talking about the cap system and potential problems with signing people. Loves the cap system and having problems is a good thing as it means kids are developing and overachieving. Parity is great of the league.
-Some other stuff about Kessel and TO media.
Pretty much what I can think of off the top of my head.

Lol, when we were in Penticton during the rookie tournament, the management guys were up in their boxes watching the game. It was hard to make out individuals since they were so far away, but everyone around us spotted Burkie right away once they saw the big dude with the tie undone.
