Some of the listed weights seem dubious - Colborne @ 213 (he's probably 220+), Monahan @ 185 (he's probably 210+), Johnny @ 150 (he's probably 165+), Jooris @ 180 (he's probably 195+), Brodie @ 182 (He's probably 200+), Raymond @ 185 (he's probably 140-).

Raymond's listed weight is probably about right. Unfortunately, glass doesn't have a lot of structural strength.

I don't mean that as a knock against him, either. He's been through a vertebral compression fracture, which left him with permanent damage to his back. I suffered something similar in my neck. Fortunately in my case, the nerve damage was very light, and can probably be managed with medication. It may require surgery in the future. I hope not.

Raymond's injury was more serious, and I wouldn't be surprised if his strength has been permanently impaired. These injuries tend to produce permanent degenerative conditions, so even if you seem to make a full recovery, you can suffer bone or nerve damage as time goes on. I salute the guy for coming back to play hockey at all. He has more guts than people give him credit for.

How Flames roster ranks compared to NHL's other 30 teams: - 8th youngest (27.1) - 20th in height (73.2 inches) - 29th in weight (195.5 lbs)
If he's going by the weights listed on the Flames site, he's weigh off.

It shouldn't be a surprise that NHL weights and heights are off. Teams report whatever they want to, have done so for decades.

Or to put up direct comparisons...

Hamilton / Diaz
Frolik .... / Glencross
Ferland . / Byron
Jooris ... / McGrattan
Kulak ... / Setoguchi
Ortio

and also Bennett / Raymond for starting lineup

That is a pretty substantial upgrade

Where are you getting your weights from?

I don't know about the others but Colborne IIRC reported that he gained about 15 lbs. over the summer putting him over 225. Monahan reported that he came to his rookie season at 200 lbs and last season he said he gained another 10 or 12 lbs.

Gotta be a little cautious with the numbers. Players almost always lose weight during the season. If Monahan gained 12 pounds, was that since training camp last year or end of season?

No way Johnny is 165+, I'd be surprised if Brodie was 200+ as well

This was my point....why not call up a D until Smid returns? Anything could happen on game day or during warmup and we'd be stuck with only 5 D for no good reason. Why carry 22 guys when you are allowed 23?
If probably won't matter, but it seems like a kind of an unnecessary risk to take.

^ I thought Hartley has been quoted saying that Bennett will be playing C with sheltered minutes. Like Monahan in his rookie season.

Johnny is probably 150-155
Mony is probaby 210
Brodie is probably 185-195
Giordano is probably over 9000 because he cannot be measured by any scale.

The Flames media guide for this year seems to be the most updated for height/weight information. And is what Haynes might be going off.

http://flames.nhl.com/v2/ext/mediaguides/2015-16_Calgary_Flames_Media_Guide.pdf

But like sureLoss said, teams report whatever they want to.

Why did BT waive Byron if they had an extra spot?

Is it due to volume on the waiver wire?

Someone speculated that based on the interviews, maybe it was to send him to down to recover from his injuries. Due to volume, the likelihood of him passing I guess was higher? He had groin and wrist surgery and apparently he aggravated his groin again in preseason. It did seem like Byron would have passed through if it wasn't for MTL and the Kassian situation.

Why not IR if he was hurt??
