Korostelev will likely be gone by about the 40th pick but if we can grab him he could be a deadly sniper with Gaudreau or Bennett

Gavrikòv - Rafikov would be awesome.

would be kind of cool if we used a pick on Parker Wotherspoon, Tylers younger brother. Listed #46 by Central Scouting.

I couldn't care less about reuniting brothers, but I would love to draft Parker Wotherspoon because he looks like a great player! Extremely mobile, gritty, and intelligent. Reminds me (stylistically) of Russell.
Good suggestion, devo22

45: Nick Sorensen
50: Dillion Heatherington
75: Pavel Buchnevich
80: Anthony Duclair
That would have been a ridiculous infusion of talent into our prospect base.

For even more fun, if this is the 2003 draft (I think it's being compared to it, but not expected to be quite that good?), we would have available to us the following (using hindsight as these were not their actual positions - which are in brackets behind the pick):
15: Ryan Getzlaf (actual 19);
43: Patrice Bergeron (actual 45);
45: Shea Weber (actual 49);
50: Corey Crawford (actual 52);
75: Ryan O'Byrne (actual 79);
80: Alexandre Picard (actual 85).
Ya, that set us up pretty good...

I'd love to get Korostelev! Even if we did something with 2 picks to move up a bit.
I recently got his signature on a Sting Jersey and had a quick word with him, seemed like a really good kid. Really driven to make the big show.

I really hope the Flames pick a defenseman in the first round this year. Now that the Flames have re-stocked their depth at center, it's time to shift the attention to the blueline ... I really like Wotherspoon and other guys have shown promise too (Culkin, Hickey), but it's still an area of weakness in our prospect pool and the upcoming draft would be a great opportunity to finally add a blue chip D prospect.
Given that the Flames are probably going to pick somewhere between 11 and 20 (after Giordanos injury, I think it's probably going to be closer to 11 than to 20 ... but who knows), at least one of Jeremy Roy and Brandon Carlo should be available. Both right-handed shots, would definitely fill an organizational need. Carlo is obviously a lot bigger (6'5 I believe), but Roy has better offense and seems to be the better puck mover. Carlo seems to a riser in most rankings, while Roy has fallen a bit. RW Brock Boeser could also be an interesting choice. Right handed shot, decent size, natural goal scorer. Timo Meier as well ... left-handed shot unfortunately, but fits everything else that the Flames could use.
Either way, a lot of intriguing prospects available in the first two rounds. Two forwards and two defensemen in the first two rounds and I think the Flames take another huge step forward in their rebuilding efforts. This really looks like a great draft to have a lot of picks.

I have seen Jeremy Roy play in Charlottetown and he's an all around defenceman. Offensive skills and defensive smarts in one package. He knows how to use his body and I wouldn't be at all concerned that he's not a monster physically.

I think this is our most likely guy for the first round. I've also seen him play and was impressed at his well rounded game. Brandon Carlo is another guy we could potentially take in the first

14 of the 31 2nd round picks this draft have been traded.
3 of those 2nd rounders were also traded twice.

I wonder if some gms don't think the draft is as deep as others do?

Wasn't sure what you meant by 31 picks, but I forgot about Chicago's Kevin Hayes pick. Now it makes sense.

I think it may have more to do with how teams feel their chances are this year of winning a cup. There are a lot of good teams, but no team stands out as unbeatable. Eastern teams look at Montreal and wonder how they will go if Price lets in a few, Western teams see Kane's injury and Anaheim's low goal diff. as potential signs that these teams are beatable.
My theory is that teams that are close will trade to make a run at the cup, and a lot of teams feel they are close this year. The picks have value, but futures are cast aside to take a shot at a cup

I think it's more of the fact that many Stanley Cup contending teams are going all in, and it's much easier to offer up a 2nd than a 1st.

I am hoping we try to move up into the top 10. I understand that it will be difficult this year, but I prefer a quality over quantity approach at this time. Getting into the top 5 (assuming we are trading up from around 15th this year) is probably out of the question though.

I would love to get Barzal in the draft.
Maybe take a flyer or 2 on D men in the second round.

With a number of seconds and a deep draft, chances are a guy on Calgary's projected first round list will fall through to their second pick level. And IMO there will be really good players at Calgary's first round level as well.

ISS top 30 for March:
http://www.isshockey.com/iss-top-30-released-march-2/
Quote:
Mitchell Marner jumps up three positions to #5 to join McDavid (#1), Eichel (#2), Crouse (#3), and Hanifin (#4) in the Top 5 of ISS Hockey’s release of its March ISS Top 30. Farjestad BK players, Joel Ek Eriksson and Oliver Kylington fluctuate on ISS Top 30. Ek Eriksson rises 9 positions to #21 and Kylington falls 12 positions to #24.
“Marner is an elite skater that can change speeds and shift laterally to create space”, says ISS Hockey Director of Scouting Dennis MacInnis. “Marner has a chance to develop into a top six NHL player, and any NHL team will be very happy with his development.”
|
Interesting that Kylington has fallen out of the top 20 on one list. His draft stock status is almost mirroring Roland McKeown's.
