Didn't someone ask Gio last year how he felt that Wideman made more than him and he literally gave 2 ####'s about it. I imagine Brodie isn't exactly crying over his almost 5 millions dollars. Also Brodie is older and his deal is shorter.

The Calgary Flames announced today that they have signed defenceman Dougie Hamilton to a multi-year contract. The Flames acquired Hamilton from the Boston Bruins on June 26, 2015 in exchange for Calgary’s 2015 first round pick (15th overall) and two second round picks (45th overall and 52nd overall – previously acquired from the Washington Capitals).

Unfortunately if you want to keep the guy your likely going to have to overpay a bit in those later years. If Treliving somehow finds a way to get around that then I will be even more impressed than I am after everything he has done with Hamilton. Higher cap hit with shorter term could be a solution. Will Gio want to risk going that route? Guess will find out.

Treliving breaks the NHL interwebs on Friday with the trade, then breaks it again with this contract. I hope he isn't wearing shoes or socks when he wins Executive of the Year in Vegas next year.

"2015 first and two seconds for Dougie Hamilton
Sign Hamilton to a 6 year $5.75M AAV deal"
^ that proposal would have been mocked endlessly in the trade speculation thread. Unreal that Treliving made this happen.

Or shows what an amazing job Treliving has done. It's already been reported that other GMS were just as shocked at how cheap we landed Hamilton for. I think it speaks more about Trelivings abilities than our knowledge.
