Default Greg Nemisz joins Oshawa Generals coaching staff

Interesting stuff. Looks like former Flames 1st round pick Greg Nemisz has hung up his skates to take up a coaching job with Oshawa at the ripe age of 25.

http://oshawagenerals.com/article/gr...coaching-staff

Quote:
A native of Courtice ON, Nemisz is familiar with Oshawa and the Generals, and even got a taste of coaching this past season. After completing the 2014-15 season with the Charlotte Checkers, Nemisz played a key role as the Generals’ eye in the sky near the end of the 2015 playoffs and throughout the 2015 MasterCard Memorial Cup.

Wasn't there a report of him signing with oilers farm team?

If not, good for him! That's definitely a unique career route and hopefully he makes a good coach. All the best Greg!

When your agent calls you up and tells you that the only team that's interested in your services is the Oilers, and they just want to give you an AHL contract, that's when you know it's time to retire.

Looking back yeah.

However, he was ranked 27th (http://www2.tsn.ca/draftcentre/feature/?id=7125) and was taken 25th. So it was not exactly a reach at the time. It would be nice to have John Carlson however.

If he's good behind the bench, good for him. Too bad things didnt pan out with him. I thought for sure he could play at least 3rd line on the Flames. But nice to see he can still find a job in the game of hockey.

Except for Brodie, Bouma, Ferland, and Ortio. Hard not to like Prust too.

Edit: how could I forget Backlund!

Sure but they did net us Backlund, Brodie, Bouma, Ferland and Ortio. That's not that bad in the end. On a 20 man roster 25% of he players will be from Sutter drafts. Not that horrendous considering those drafts are from 5-10 years ago now and picks were later in the first round.

Good for him.

I applaud the young man who realized that... with his career trajectory going 1st Round Pick, Traded for Kevin Westgarth, AHL only deal with the Oilers... it was time to move on to something else.

Sad to have to realize that your dream wasn't going to happen but hopefully his next dream will.

He also helped expand our scouting team. I remember reading somewhere that when he joined Button was the only scout on the Flames. Now we seem to have scouts in NCAA, Europe and Russia

If Edmonton is the only team left, I'd think about hanging the skates too

Three major injuries in three years, and knowing that probably closed his window on an NHL career has to be wearing. Good call to transition, I think.

I'd move heaven and earth to avoid being associated with the Oilers in any way. So coaching isnt so bad.

And hes a local kid from that area anyways.
