Flames Who will the Flames select with their first pick?

Been looking at the prospect list for a few days now for obvious reasons.

I think the Flames will select 6-8th. Assuming they keep the pick.

My guess is: Hunter Shinkaruk of the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Then we will have Hunter and Sven.

Can't say until the seasons over. But if it's 6-10 I'd like Monahan or Lindholm the most.

By the looks of it we will end up with our first ever top 3 pick, so we have to make it count. I think having the 3rd pick is best actually, so we don't have to be part of the McKinnon and Jones debate, and take Barkov 3rd.

Could vary so much depending on the slot. Any top 10 pick this year will bring a real good player though. I think Shinkaruk would be a top 5 pick in a normal year and any team would be lucky to add him, he could be a first line centre and Iam a big fan of his. I am hoping for MacKinnon, Barkov or Drouin though who you could potentially build an offence around for a decade and in my opinion are slightly lower risk.

Difficult to speculate. Lets not forget that;

Starting in 2013 under the current CBA, all 14 non-playoff teams would have a chance to grab the first overall pick using the same weighting system format, which eliminates the rule where a team can only move up four positions in the draft.
25% is the best odds based on the 14 non-playoff teams.

1.) 25%
2.) 19.9%

As much as we need a center, you take Drouin in that case. Mackinnon, Jones, then Drouin. Drouin may even go first.

It's still too early to tell. The Flames could be picking 1st overall or 21st overall. Wait until the season is over before we start speculating.

Is this confirmed? I thought someone mentioned that this format wouldn't be in place until next season.

I think recent events suggest that they will trade the first pick for a young player that has fallen out of favor with his current team. Perhaps Winnipeg Montréal or Colorado would be trading partners in that case.

That is sad because I look around the league and see recently drafted players making immediate impact on a lot of teams including the current class of the league Chicago.

The lottery winning team can only move up 4 spots this season.

I believe it was? Because on Bob McKenzie mid-year prospect rankings, he indicated that the NHL would adjust the probabilities which would allow other teams the likelihood of getting the 1st overall pick.

Too early to tell but would love to have Barkov on this team if we have a Top 3 pick. If its 6-10 then Shinkaruk, Lindholm or Monahan.

If we decide to go into seller mode and somehow get another first rounder I would love for us to pick Ryan Pulock. He's currently ranked Top 10 by ISS. He's captain material, plays a calm poise game, right handed shot with a bullet from the point. Has good size at 6'1 215lbs.

They made it so whoever wins the lottery moves to 1st overall. They just haven't adjusted the odds yet.

I'm on the Lindholm bandwagon all the way.

Number 19 in this video. Not just a flashy shootout goal highlight real either, actual play.

The first Draft Lottery was held in 1995. Since then, there have been 17 standard lotteries (excluding 2005, which was conducted differently).

Past lottery results:
  • 1st: 1996, 1997, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010 (35.3%)
  • 2nd: 2012 (5.9%)
  • 3rd: 1998, 2001, 2002, 2004 (23.5%)
  • 4th: 2003 (5.9%)
  • 5th: 2000, 2007 (11.8%)
  • 6th: Never (0%)
  • 7th: 1995 (5.9%)
  • 8th: 1999, 2011 (11.8%)

I have a good feeling for finishing with the 6th worst record.

Oh wow if we somehow grab another 1st round pick, with this being a deep first round, this franchise could set it self up very well going forward with two picks in the 1st round. We could end up with a center and winger, or a forward and defenceman with franchise player material. If we could grab Drouin and a center oh wow.
