My wife's laptop hard drive crapped the bed (this is a second HDD replacement I've installed, so I'm more pissed off than she is) so I got her a new laptop over the weekend and dragged out an old 120GB SSD and popped it in.
Creating a USB stick for installing ubuntu was beyond easy. Easier than when I last used Linux.
Then I started following this:

"Ubuntu after install" is a great program.
Also toyed around with Cinnamon. I like it. It's a windows look that can be swapped at the log in screen. Haven't toyed around with it enough though. Just a heads up... you install it and then the "hazy" part (which guides don't explain properly)...
- Log out (not restart as many guides tell you... unless it's because I log in automatically)
- Click your account
- Click the circle ubuntu logo on your account (just above password part)
- Choose Cinnamon
To swap back to unity or gnome
Question: Anyone with an idea about KODI vs XBMC for a media center? Haven't had time to look it up yet.
