FYI: Environmental Health Inspection Reports now available online

Just an FYI before you head out after work to have some libations and nosh. You can now search through health inspections of Calgary's sundry restaurants and other food establishments on the Calgary Health Region's website. Records are available for inspections conducted since January 1, 2008 and provide a brief description of any violations and actions taken, if any.

I looked up a couple sketchy places I tend to frequent down town and am relieved to see no violations reported thus far. Of course, there is the possibility that all the nasty problems were found during inspections before January 1 but let's not think about that.

I came across that a couple of weeks ago before the office was heading out for a chinese food buffet. Apparently the place we were planning to go to was shut down a week before for 8 violations including "evidence of vermin" and "failure to keep food at a safe temperature".

Now I always check that before thinking about dining out.

Wow, what a great idea.

If this doesn't push restaurants to keep their code up, nothing will.

I hope they make sure everyone knows about this website, Cpuck is a good start, that should cover about 80% of the Calgary Population :P

I just wish they were more detailed. Usually the CHR had more detailed ones available, telling you what they observed wrong, not just what category.
