In no order
Kane
Benn
JVR
Voracek
Turris
Couture
Simmonds
Backlund
Killorn
Hagelin
Bonino
Marron
King
He'd be in the top 10 for forwards but not even close to top 3.

I think Barkov is going to end up being the best player from Monahan's draft class.
Man, that really was some kinda draft.

I saw this posted to the Flames site today. Seeing how Mony stacks up against the sophomore seasons of Getzlaf, Kopitar, Toews, Spezza and Duchene is alone worth the click.

That is a great article! Wow are we ever lucky to have had Monahan slide to 6th overall for us. He's basically doubled his point totals against much harder match-ups and way less sheltered minutes. Next year with Monahan/Backlund/Bennett down the middle is gonna be fun to watch for an entire season. The progression of so many players this year is extremely exciting!

Helps highlight just how impressive his sophomore season is going.

If you would have told me that Monahan would have more goals this season than Malkin, Crosby, Carter, Toews, Getzlaf, Couture, Johansen, Datsyuk, Bergeron, Thorton, Kopitar, O'Reilly, Stall and have over twice as many goals as MacKinnon, I would have said you were crazy.
Fact is he is 5th among all centers in the NHL this year in goals and he is only 20 years old and this is only his 2nd season.
If you consider what his season would have been like if he had centered Gaudreau and Hudler all season instead of just for 31 games you get an idea of just how good his future will be.

We already looked at the impact rookie Johnny Gaudreau is having and why his success should give teams the incentive to look at wildly productive players who are "undersized."
The other key building block for the Flames: Second-year forward Sean Monahan, who is having one of the top goal-scoring seasons in the NHL.
And he doesn't turn 21 until next season.

I caught the end of Hartley on Fan 960. and he had great things to say about Monahan, especially his off season training and strenght.
In short if you didn't know he was tlaking about Monahan, you would have thought he was talking about an all star player in the prime of his carear.

Up to date list of 20 or younger players since the 2005-2006 lockout to score more goals than Monahan's 31 (so far) in a single season:
Ovechkin (52)
Stamkos (51, 45)
Crosby (39, 36)
Toews (34)
Malkin (33)
Kopitar (32)

Аrpon Basu @ArponBasu
Sean Monahan scored his 53rd NHL goal, which easily leads all players taken in 2013 Draft. Also leads 2012 draft. Would be 4th in 2011 draft

Maybe even more impressive is Monahan's 31 goals is good for 12th in the league as scoring is down this season. Using the same list as before, this is how they ranked in goal scoring those years:
Ovechkin (3)
Stamkos (1,2)
Crosby (12, 16)
Toews (16)
Malkin (27)
Kopitar (20)

It was suggested a few weeks ago that Monahan would be a candidate to go first overall in a re-draft - a notion that was laughed at by some. I fail to see why.
A big centre who has already scored 30 goals, while playing against tough match-ups and showing a great two-way game. Add to that the fact that he scores BIG goals over and over again, and is already a leader on this team.
Nope - apparently not good enough for first overall.

Was just cruising through the nhl.com stats pages and noticed that Monahan and Hudler are close to the top of the league in a couple of stat categories (Monahan is 5th in goals and Hudler is 8th in points) while having very few penalty minutes. Any chance either of these guys get Lady Byng consideration?
EDIT: After looking a little deeper into the stats and considering the defensive responsibility that has been given to him, I don't think a Selke nomination is out of the question for Monahan as well.
