I don't watch the Wings that closely but is this AAV a little high? 3 years in the NHL. I don't think he is a top 2 defenseman, but solid top 4 I guess.
I suppose it depends what you are paying your other guys.

I don't see Dekeyser as a top pairing guy, I see him as a solid #3. So I would compare this contract to Hamilton's (though Hamilton is 3 years younger and has more upside).
And on that basis, it sounds about right. Big guy, can move the puck, does everything well, and is young (this contract buys pretty much all of his peak years).
So I don't mind those numbers for him.

I'm not sure it's "insanely" awful... but it is pretty bad. More players should file for arbitration, GM's seem to make an awful lot of bad decisions when they're up against a hearing.
