Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Similar to MIN with Jordan Schroeder, TOR has put Peter Holland on waivers
Craig Button @CraigJButton
Another pre-arbitration tactic to get Holland on a two-way contract.

B Schenn is the biggest name on the list. Hearing coming up today -- no deal. Schenn has 1 year of RFA left.
Doesn't look like either side will be happy.
Philly traded his brother away. Prioritized giving extensions to Simmonds, Couturier. Schenn is not seen as part of their core.
-I doubt the arbitrator will take into account that Schenn's point total are largely influenced by playing with Giroux/Voracek. Likely means inflated price.
Do they take an overpriced spite contract for 2 years? 1 year? Walk away?

^^^Oof. They aren't really close. I would imagine that the Wings will desperately want to keep Mrazek. He could be an elite goaltender in the very near future.

Am I reading the updated original post correctly - not one case has actually had an arbitrator ruling so far? All have been settled prior to a binding arbitration ruling?

yes... it is actually rare for a case to make it in front of an arbitrator let alone to an actual ruling.

Am I missing something or does Detroit have no room to sign Mrazek. General Fanager says they are over the cap already with the dekeyser signing today.

I realize you are allowed to be a bit over in the summer but if Mrazek signs for around 4.5M how is that going to work? They will be almost 5.5 over the cap. Is it the LTIR guys that will save them?

Vitale and Franzen will be LTIR when the season starts, about $5 million between the two.

They have 15 forwards listed. so they could save around $2.5 million by demoting 3 of them, but that still doesn't help enough. Does Franzen have a injury that will allow the Wings to put him on the LTIR? Otherwise signing Vanek seems really stupid right now.

Franzen is done isn't he? Concussions prevent him from ever playing again I believe.

Looks like Mrazek went in front of the arbitrator
George Malik @georgemalik
No late-breaking arbitration award from the Mrazek-Wings case...It appears that both sides presented their cases to the arbitrator.

only 3 arb cases left after today's signings.
Barrie
Stone
Maricin
Barrie the most interesting one as he is speculated to be a trade target for a few teams, most notably the Oilers.

Avs and Tyson Barrie still in arbitration hearing right now. Only case that hasn't settled beforehand. I imagine that one may get ugly.

I thought Mrazek went to the hearing, but they settled before the arbitrator made the ruling.

That was the one report, but multiple people are saying that Barrie is the only one to get in front of the arbitrator.
Mrazek and the Red Wings may have gotten very close to a deal before the hearing and asked the arbitrator to wait.
