I went to a BBQ in Temple near the Fire hall once about 10 years ago. Sounded like we were in a was zone all afternoon, And I went to 3 different school no more than a 10 minute walk, E. W. and N. of their house. Never notice planes at any of the schools
So i'm not sure if there is a vary narrow area where it gets really bad on any give flight path?

Yeah directly under the arrival is the worst, then it kinda falls off from there. Also, even compared to 10 years ago, a greater percentage of planes now are those that make a little less noise.

I'm almost sure they did a few test runs of that extra PSP frequency this past winter. An extra 136 seat plane on a couple days in addition to the usual double daily 174 seat planes.

Is anyone familiar with what will happen once the new terminal opens as to relocation of flights? Are they going to move all the US departures to the new terminal or continue to have them leave from Pier C? I'm assuming all of the transatlantic/transpacific flights will go through the new terminal so what happens to those extra gates? Just curious.

On SSP, user Cage had this to say about the int'l terminal:

International terminal is big for the following reasons:
(1) CAA originally had plans to extend concourse B/C as a cheap way to add gate capacity. However they ran into capacity problem with the central processor functions of CBSA, US CBP Pre-clearance, CATSA security, post security food court, etc. The international terminal fixes this issue by greatly expanding central processor functions such that follow on expansion will be to add a hammerhead onto the transborder pier.
(2) wingspans are going in one direction, longer. My prediction is the folding wingtip idea for the 777X will be just like the same thing as original 777-200. Early development of the 777 had folding wing because the airplane had to have been performance but early requirements were to fit within the same dimensions as DC10. Eventually the airlines figured out that weight of the fold wingtip significantly reduced the performance of the 777 and the option was never ordered.
(3) YYC is at maximum capacity for swing gates with B/C20-23 and C/D31-34 plus four gates on the D concourse. Any attempt to move international and transborder operations will reduce the ability to conduct swing gate operations. Consequently the new terminal must be overbuilt to account for the loss of utilization capability (where 1 gate could handle dual purpose, now 2 gates at single purpose are required).

Cathay Pacific Cargo begins their 2x weekly YYC-HKG service with the 747-867F starting this Friday.
Routings for both days is JFK-YYC-HKG.
The Tuesday flight departs YYC at 0405 to HKG and the Friday flight departs at 0320, so unless they are running late they are going to be tough to catch in the daylight hours.

Delta's new YYC-SEA flights started this week. 2 daily flights operated by the CRJ.
That now brings YYC-SEA service to 5 daily flights between Delta and Alaska/Horizon.

I happen to be taking that route next week, with Horizon. To Seattle and back on the same day - it's going to be a long day.

Air Canada Rouge just tweeted that they are starting YYC-Hamilton this summer:
Quote:
Hey @flyyhm Get ready! We're launching non-stop flights this summer from @FlyYYC to your beautiful city!
|
No other details yet, but I would assume it will be operated by a Rouge A319.

The Calgary airport in its current state was really sad this week.
To start with, there is one crappy gas station tucked away to refill your rental car.
Then I got stuck in the security line on Tuesday for Air Canada. They were renovating it so they had it down to two lanes through security. The line was so long that there was a stream of people being escorted or pushing their way to the front to avoid missing flights. That just made the rest of us wait even longer.
I can't wait for the renos to be complete.

I think everything is supposed to be complete on time (or has slipped a bit), but everything will still need to be tested out and such, and you don't want to open up such a major expansion during the busiest season of the year (summer), so fall 2016 may be the time.

Starting in May Air Canada is going 2x daily (on certain days) on YYC-LHR again.
From 7x weekly to 9x from May 2 to 11x weekly starting June 1.
The flight is AC852 and will be operated by a 767-300, this flight will be accompanied AC850 being operated daily by the A330-300.
So versus last summers daily 77W this gives us 252 more international seats per week.
Here are the LHR flights:
AC850 YYC 1750 0935+1 LHR 333
AC852 YYC 1955 1150+1 LHR 763
AC851 LHR 1105 1351 YYC 333
AC853 LHR 1615 1835 YYC 763
