Yeah after reading some more that's what I kind of concluded as well.
My distance vision with my current glasses is fine, but I do spend a big portion of the day at the computer, and I've got 3 monitors across, and the narrow intermediate range will probably drive me crazy.
I may still get a set of normal progressives for regular use but I think the office lens ones would really help me with my daytime working!
Thanks for the help, greatly appreciated!

Options to be glasses free:
1) stop aging
2) Multi focal Contact lenses
3) Multi focal Clear Lens Exchange (essentially Cataract surgery before you have Cataracts).
4) Monovision - One eye near and one eye for far (Contacts or Laser)

Monovision is actually great. It just means you have one eye which sees far and one which sees close. Your brain figures it out. My non dominant left eye which sees near has a lower prescription than my dominant right. I’ve reduced my strength in that eye 3 times in about 10 years. It’s great to just “naturally” see both distances. Monovision coupled with long wear oxygen permeable lenses is awesome. Other than the couple of times a month I take my lenses out I can always see.

I go to the sight enhancement clinic at rockyview every few months, and all the diagnostic equipment seems straight out of the 80s. Have there been any substantial technological developments when it comes to testing eyes?
For instance, I also go to the Southern AB eye center every few months for over a decade now and the difference is unbelievable. Everything's lasers, computer scans, etc, none of that spin the dials and asking if a or b looks more clear, or holding up scratched pieces of plastic to see if it makes double vision better or worse.
I realize the equipment at the two clinics serves different functions, and I imagine all equipment is hella expensive, but It does seem vision testing equipment has lagged behind. Especially compare to say dentists who have a new arsenal every 5 year.

Rockyview equipment definitely lags behind but the basics of determining the prescription and binocular vision still need it. No electronic device has been able to achieve the precision of the subjective refraction (ie 1 or 2) as your prescription is not just the measurements there is a variability based on each individual.
The Southern AB eye Center is Ophthalmology. You are not there for a refraction it’s for a specific health reason. Many Optometry offices have similar equipment for screening.
I mean I just got a virtual reality visual field analyzer that’s pretty slick.

Near sighted. Want to get lasered. It’s doable. My eye doctor was supportive and offered to refer me.
Then I saw a different eye doctor last month and she says it’s a bad idea because, guaranteed, I will need reading glasses in 10 years if I do.
She said since I’m near sighted, this will never happen if I don’t get lasered.
Does this lady speak truth?

You will need reading glasses in your 40s. That is certain. If you are naturally nearsighted you can just remove your glasses for near work (the comfort of doing so based on your prescription). If you get LASIK you would need to put glasses on for near work in your 40s.
You need to manage expectations when it comes to LASIK. What is your end goal ? No glasses for a decade? Doable. No glasses forever? Very unlikely.

Don’t you get tired of always being so positive? How are you able to stay in that frame of mind?

Is there any way to reduce floaters? During the spring they are most noticeable with all the bright daylight? Is there something specific that causes them? Sometimes they are worse and sometimes it’s like they aren’t even there.
