I was there earlier this year and if I hadn't glanced at a billboard I would not have had any idea about the payment process. If you pay within a week of crossing it is cheaper. Failure to pay for out of Province will be sent to collections.

According to the website you have to pay, but I'm not sure if it's an Impark type of situation where you don't really have to.

I think it only takes a pic of the front license plate, if you are talking about the Port Mann bridge. I had driven over it a few times too, and never received any notices in the mail or even thought of what the method of payment was.
I think a toll on a bridge that is part of HWY 1 is ridiculous though.

I'll pay my tolls when they stop blocking pipelines. Fair? Fair!

I didn't pay last year and never saw a bill. I assume they will send you a bill if you cross daily though.
It costs them $20 or so to pull your information from the Alberta registry so they are not going to spend that to send you a $9 invoice that they can't collect.

I've never received anything in the mail. My guess is they don't send anything out.

It pisses me off so bad that there isn't a REASONABLE alternative to crossing the Fraser that is not tolled. One of Golden Ears or Port Man needs to be free.
Patullo is not reasonable. Adds probably 25 mins to your trip at least.

I registered my vehicles as it is cheaper that way. However, when ever we are out there we have our bike rack on our SUV, sometimes with no bikes. Haven't paid a cent As we don't have a front plate in Alberta they are unable to bill us.

Heads up, as an Alberta resident you don't have to pay the tolls. BC can't enforce it.

yeah but what if you're an Alberta resident in a rental car?
Usually the rental car agencies just tack it on to your bill. One rental car company sent me a bill for the tolls plus an extra $25 processing fee

Drove to a wedding on the island last summer, and didn't pay tolls either way.
We still haven't heard or seen anything, so I think you're probably safe.

A reasonable solution is to toll all the bridges on the same system, and set a reasonable yearly maximum ($500). This would lessen the people avoiding the toll bridges and would move traffic along quicker. For daily commuters they'd pay about 1/3 of the cost they do now.
The other solution is to eliminate tolls completely, and tax the top 2% of income earners in BC to pay for the debt associated with the bridges, many of whom do not use the bridges.
The latter is the platform of the party currently in power in BC. The former solution is the party that recently lost power.

Thanks....looks like their website is worded so they want you to pay but they can't really enforce it. It would be a huge oversight if the camera takes a picture of the front of the vehicle.....not complaining though. I think I'll just leave it for now. I would actually pay but I've crossed over many times this week (at least 6) and wouldn't even know how much to pay

Do you think they should build another bridge next to the toll bridge but not charge a toll on it?
You realize tolls are charged because of convenience right?

I thought the Tolls were charged cause the bridges were built privately and owned privately?

PPP the province owns the bridge but the company that built it gets to toll for a specific period.

Take the South Fraser Perimeter Road (Highway 17) to the Alex Fraser bridge if the Patullo bridge bothers you.
