Whatever it takes to get to the coin flip. That's where Canada has to be ranked in the Fifa Top 10 all time.

The harsh reality.
It's simple really, no interest = no money = no skill. Canada NEEDS to host a world cup. I seriously think that is the only way our national team will see any sort of investment.

The money invested during a WCF build-up isn't going to help improve the quality of the players you'll see at those finals. The results of the money Canada has to invest won't be seen for a generation/cycle as the money has to be pumped into the system at the grassroots level.

That said, Qatar was awarded 11.5 full years out in Dec 2010, for 2022. 14 year olds at bid win time be 26 if that time frame holds. There's a lot of development that can be poured into that decade.

Considering how much money the country is going to be pumping in for stadia upgrades and security etc, $5 million dollars a year or more for some hardcore training, keeping the development pipeline flowing for teens with top end coaching, to assemble a team 3-5 years out from the bid (and 5 years to the WC) squeeze an advancement to the second round (which is a reasonable goal), would not be unreasonable.

I always thought Canada could somehow piggy back (the team, and stadiums) off the next US bid. Have 3 or 4 venues in Canada, the others in the US. The CMNT gets in, just as the USMNT do. Holding a men's World Cup of our own gets multiple state of the art facilities which sit domant/never near capactity, unless you build temp ones like in Qatar.

In some countries that might be the case but I think Canada is in a different boat. Our development system is letting players down at a much earlier age so it isn't a matter of teaching them advanced skills in a high-performance setting when they are teenagers because those players haven't even been taught the basic skills correctly.

One way the CSA and Government could leverage a WCF bid is to only grant matches to venues in Provinces where the Provincial Association/Federation fully buys into a National Curriculum and Development Program.

I think the CSA would be open to that but not the American FA; it is way too lucrative for them and they would be giving away money.

Canada hosting the World Cup is a pipe dream. We don't have the infrastructure to do so.

That might be an advantage, since Germany 2006, no country hosting the world cup has an infrastructure. South Africa had 0 stadiums. All the Brazil ones are re-done, Russia has nothing, Qatar has nothing.

Problem is Canada will actually have a budget and not line FIFA officials pockets with bribes and/or over budgeting of the building of stadiums (stealing steel and cement)

0-0 tie with Panama. Panama playing a b lineup, as they already had progressed.
Outside of capping Aleman, and letting the Spainard see what he has ahead of him first hand, a waste of a trip.

The Benito Floro era begins. Nowhere to go but up from here. Hopefully the CSA schedules a lot of friendlies between now and the first round of 2018 World Cup Qualifiers in 2015, so that the team has time to gel. At that time, perhaps players like Aleman, Edwini-Bonsu and Piette will be regular starters in Europe, Cavallini continues to tear up Uruguay, and players like Bekker, Henry, Porter, Osorio and Teibert are regular starters in MLS.

Also, boy has Ashtone Morgan's stock has plummeted in 2013. He went from arguably the greatest Canadian prospect on the team, to someone I don't want to see near the LB position. His defense was horrible today. At the rate he's going he'll be off TFC's roster and playing in the NASL by the end of the year.

I think that's why Owen blossomed so well. Between Neindorf, his dad, and his dad bringing in keen coaches, he had solid direction, and of course moving onto Bayern Jr's while still young.

You forgot to mention the confidence boost he got from megging younger pylons like myself in practices. He owes me.

Jonathan De Guzman injured in a practice collision with Kuyt while training with Holland. Can't imagine he'll be getting a lot of get well cards from anybody around here.

Benito Floro is holding a training camp in Spain from Sept 1-11. They will play Mauritania on Sept 8 and 10. Good way for Floro to continue assessing the players available to him.

The squad for the Sept 1-11 camp has been named. It's very big, with some interesting calls. I believe Cavallini declined as he's trying to crack the roster of Nacional. Adekugbe apparently is rumoured to have a shot at cracking the starting 11 in Vancouver next year.
