Flames 19-year old Sam Bennett - Expectations for 15/16 season

A lot of things to be excited about for the coming season. Curious to see what the expectations are like for what will be Sam Bennett's rookie season.

Do people see him playing 2nd/3rd line LW or 2nd/3rd line Centre to start? Does he start on the wing and maybe switch to centre part way through?

What kind of point totals do we expect to see him finish the regular season with?

I think he could be a real surprise and boost to the offense with his tenacity.

I'd maybe like to see a Bennett-Backlund-Frolik 2nd line to start and could see them doing some real damage.

Thoughts?

I'd like to see him developed as a centre with sheltered minutes to begin with, and then gradually moved up the depth chart as the year progresses. 3/4 line centre with power play time to start and towards the spring being more of a 2/3.

Personally, I really hope Bennett plays as a center for the majority of the season. I think he can earn a spot on the third line out of camp, and Hartley can ease him in. I expect a lot of angry CPers wondering why Bennett isn't seeing the ice much in the third period in the first half of the season. Production wise, I hope he can get 15 goals and 40 points. I hope he can win about 45% of his faceoffs.

I would like to see him as #3C with Ferland and maybe Colborne or Jones (or Frolik).

I think he should be able to post at least 35-40 points and if all goes well, he could get up into the 45-50 point range.

He probably won't get a lot of PP time. And he probably doesn't see a lot of time with the higher end wingers. But if he does end up spending any significant amount of time with Gaudreau, then you can bump his numbers up into the 50s.

I want him to be #3C on a line with Ferland, Byron, Shore or Jooris. Also want him to score 70 points

This guy... This guy is going to be good from game 1. I'm hoping the Flames start him out on the 3rd line at Centre. He'll have two good line-mates on the third line and get the sheltered minutes that Monahan got as a rookie. I wouldn't be surprised to see him finish the season as our clear-cut #2 centre.

Bennett has the type of personality and determination where he just won't be denied. Put as many hurdles in front of him as you want, he'll still find a way to come out on top.

Would like to see him play 3rd line with Frolik, similar to what we did with Monahan/Hudler during his first year.

3C, develop him into a center role. Would also like him to get some PP time.

As many others are saying I think he will start the season off as our #3 C. If the stars align he will be #2 by the end of the season. I expect anywhere from 30-50 points. Anything beyond that will be gravy.

I hope he can be a Calder nominee by seasons' end. Shelter him like Monahan was his first year.

I want to see him as a 2/3C next year. Backlund's line will do the heavy lifting defensively, Monahans line is the top unit but Bennett will be given a lot of opportunity to be on the PP, and get offensive zone starts.

I have high hopes for Bennett and prediction is 27goals and 71pts on the year.

I'd like him to follow the same path as Monahan. 3rd line this season with PP time and moves up the lineup as needed.

The playoffs were a small sample size. But in those playoff games Bennett didn't really look like an overwhelmed rookie at all. All things considered, that't pretty damn impressive.

To me the only thing stopping from putting in a really impressive season will be his health. He plays more of a hard nosed game than either Monahan or Gaudreau, so hopefully he stays healthy.

As far as where he slots in the lineup, I have no worries whatsoever. Gaudreau went from middling minutes and little powerplay time to essentially running the powerplay and being on the ice in the last minute of the playoff clinching game.

If Bennett earns it, he will get it. Centre is a different beast though.

I'd be very happy with 40 points and a decent amount of time at center.

I think he's a little overrated to be honest. I'm expecting 25 points at most.

My expectations for 19 year old Sam Bennett are higher than for the 18 year old Sam Bennett, so, 22g and 33a - 55pts.
Starting as 2C/3C with PP time and favourable Ozone starts.
In perfect world, I would like him to play with Hudler and Ferland for most of the year. Which means I see Frolik playing on the top line for some added toughness.

He'll play as a 3rd line centre at first then work his way up to the 2nd.
