Seems to be the same contract.

I may have my history wrong, but wasn't Langkow's main contract with the Flames based on him being a 1b/2a centre? I thought he made more than then most second line centres because the expectation was that he would spend a lot of time with Iggy.
Like weren't the top NHL forwards making like $6.5 - $7mil back then?

The way the Jets did with RFA Burmistrov.
The package that the Sabres gave away to get (not quite UFA O'Rielly) totally blew what the Flames the Flames gave Boston. The Flames gave slightly more than they would have to to get Hamilton rather than an offer sheet. So this negates paying a UFA so much because you don't have to give up assets.
The move by the Av's to get their 2016 second round pick back and have their own 1st 2nd and 3rd picks is at least a minor indication that if the Flames try to low-ball Monahan or Gaudreau (or their teams: Barkov, Seth Jones, or Lindholm) they would be able to offer sheet them... Those 5 players are almost certain to be better than 15-20 draft pick that would be the highlight of the offer sheet.
It also provides some protection if someone offer sheets MacKinnon.
It only take 1 team to offer sheet.... and the one offer sheet threatens everyone with a franchise type RFA that they need to sign.
|
Once again, you make no discernable point.
1) Hamilton signed for 6 x $5.75 which is substantially better than 7 x $7.5
2) Hamilton is a better player IMO
3) That included two years of UFA for him, so not entirely an RFA contract.
Your original point was that O'Reilly's contract will set the tone for Gaudreau and Monahan. Now, you are suggesting Hamilton's contract, which is almost $2M less per year, will.
There's a big difference. And frankly, if they both sign for 6 x $5.75 I will not be at all unhappy.

This is what Oreily is being signed to. He's the number 1 center who will play the tough minutes through the first 3 years and the number 2 guy when eichel takes over.
I think we see a lot more of these numbers for the 2nd line centers after Stamkos gets 12 million.

Less than two weeks after signing a seven year contract extension worth $52.5-million, Buffalo Sabres centre Ryan O’Reilly has been charged with impaired driving after a pickup truck collided with a Tim Hortons in Lucan, Ont.
OPP announced Monday that O’Reilly, 24, from Bluewater, Ont., had been charged with driving a motor vehicle while ability impaired (alcohol) and care or control over 80 mgs. He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with failing to remain at the scene.

Nice. Dodged a bullet on the offer sheet fiasco. I'll take boring Sean Monahan every day of the week.

Oh sweet, another piece of crap drunk driver. That's okay, I'm sure Ryan's wealth and status will buy him out of the consequences.

I hope so too. But somehow these celebrities rarely get the book, or even a semblance of it.
I can't believe people still drink and drive. Too many options and too much awareness for anyone to have any defence.
