I'm kind of glad he retired rather than go back for another check as he kind of looked spent in the playoffs. Pretty amazing career considering his beginnings with the Flames organization.

Blasphemy, I count St Louis' quads to be among the greatest achievements of the human race.

Or he got contacted and figured he didn't want to put his 40 year old body through another season for $2 million.

I hate him, so happy he is finally out of the game.
HOF? thats deplorable. I hope he never gets in the hall. Stop pretending he won a cup, stop pretending he did anything for that Olympic gold. Did he even play? cried his way onto the team. then contributed nothing.
Crybaby, whiner, pouter, etc. I have zero respect for him.

As much as a lot of us don't like it, Tampa did win. His name is on the Cup. Pretending it didn't happen doesn't change that.
The guy had over 1000 points and won almost every trophy he could. I'd be pretty shocked if he didn't get in.

I liked him right up until he thought his own GM should have given him special treatment to be put on the Canadian roster.

Exactly. Yzerman wasn't the only one making the decisions about who made Team Canada. Even Babcock did not play him much. Nevertheless, He deserves to be in the Hall for all he accomplished

He also forced his way to the Rangers because he wanted to be close to his home. Obviously, the Rangers were not interested in bringing him back, but if St. Louis still wanted to play and stay close to home, I have to think he could have gotten something done with the Devils, as an example, since they have nothing much else going for them.
So it seems to me that he really hung them up because he wanted to.

I understand. I just really dont like him, theres something about Marty St. Louis that I find unshakably distasteful.
I respect him and his accomplishments, but I really, really despise him.
And I dont even care about Tampa Bay or even Steve Yzerman that much, its just something about Marty St. Louis.

I always hated flipper more than the midget, personally. But his baby act wrt Yzerman and the Olympic team really soured me on his personality. Kind of glad he's done now.
As far as HHOF balloting goes, his petulance with the Olympic team could hold his induction back if there is a crop of big name players to choose from. But I can't think of anyone else whose retired so far that would be a bigger name than St. Louis come three years from now.

St. Louis is one of only 14 players to win the scoring title more than once in NHL history. Not to mention Stanley Cup, Hart Trophy, Olympic Gold, Lady Byng, etc. Say what you want about his personality but there's a lot bigger jerks that have got in with less impressive careers. He's a first ballot Hall of Famer regardless of who else retires this year.

As he played his entire career in the East, and only seeing him once or twice a year vs. the 'Hawks, I never really formed much of an opinion on the guy...Oddly, I feel much the same about Crosby, and others who stay and play in the East for their entire careers...with working 2nd shift and family, I have to make an effort to DVR games to watch, and, being a Blackhawk fan, I just don't get much exposure to those guys...
As far as being "slighted" for the Olympics...I am an old SOB, that HATES the Olympics...don't care...but it seemed silly to make a deal against being passed over to give a younger guy a chance...

He played the relevant part of his career in the East. But he started in Calgary.
