Default 2015 Flames Development Camp - July 6-10 UPD: Schedule and Roster announced

on-ice sessions will be held at Winsport. Camp officially opens on July 6 but usually closed to the public as it will be physical and medical testing.

On-ice sessions are typically open to the public. Schedule to be released by the Flames in the future.

According to the CBA only the following players are allowed to attend:

i) Unsigned draft choices

ii) Any Player in the Entry Level System with less than 120 NHL Games played (but who did not play in excess of 70 NHL Games in the preceeding Regular Season)

iii) Draft-related Unrestricted Free Agents

iv) Players who were eligible for selection in the preceding Entry Draft but were undrafted; and

v) Any Player who is not in the Entry Level System, who finished the preceding season disabled, and who submits a written request to the Club, with a copy to the NHL and the NHLPA, to participate in his Club's Conditioning Camp.

Also players (that meet the above requirements) who have already attended 3 of these camps are not required to attend any more but may opt to do so.

NCAA players attending this camp must pay their own way at this camp (transportation, lodging, food etc) and may elect not to attend.

Treliving also stated last year that there would be changes forthcoming with how training camp was held last year:

Quote:
"I think it's safe to say there will be changes," Treliving said. "I want to continue to place the emphasis that it's education, it's development, it's giving these guys the tools. Yes, you want to get a little glimpse and take a little see on how they move, do those things.

But in a lot of ways, the emphasis on doing too much heavy lifting on-ice and evaluating in the middle of July, it can be dangerous. I don't think it's radical changes but we'll tweak it going into it next year."

Jankowski was mentioned specifically as someone who will participate by Treliving yesterday.

He is the player I am the most curious to see.

First time attendees (besides the obvious 2015 draft class):

Kenney Morrison
Louick Marcotte
Rushan Rafikov - assuming Visa issues are handled
Jakub Nakladal - Flames might allow him to skip it

I would be stunned if Nakladal was there.

Darren Haynes @DarrenWHaynes
Flames dev camp is July 6-11 at WinSport. Testing day 1 then four days on ice. Bigger focus this year on skill development, less scrimmages.

Darren Haynes @DarrenWHaynes
Isn't 100% confirmed but Treliving expects Jakub Nakladal to attend dev camp. Likely won't participate in full camp, more to meet the staff.

Likely visa issues, but not 100% confirmed that that's the reason.

He had visa issues last year IIRC. If that hasn't been taken care of by now, then I would assume he just doesn't really want to come over for development camp very badly.

6'5'' 225lbs 19 yrs old stay at home defenceman from the QMJHL.

Seems to be a bit of a fighter.

Obviously with Kanzig, Bruce and Prolux, they are filling the truculent thug role thoroughly. Not sure why they needed another after Kanzig, but it can't hurt.

Do you have problems scoring?
Are you over 6'5 tall?
Not afraid to bully it up?

The Calgary Flames need, you!

I completely disagree with Kanzig filling the 'truculent thug' role. Completely.

He was drafted not just because he was a behemoth of a young man, but because he actually plays defence well. He thinks the game well. Apparently quite the high character and solid leadership qualities about him. Enough for Button to send all his scouts to see him a few times in his draft year. Seems to be a very cerebral player with solid positioning and gap control already. Will he be a player in the NHL? I don't know, but he is not in the system to be a truculent thug.

I also think drafting Bruce implies that he is not that either. Good chance he would have just passed through the draft and could have been an invite to camp, but they obviously saw enough of him and decided to draft him.

Not sure that Bruce with only 32 PIM in 52 GP really falls into that category.
