The #Canucks are 1 of 15 teams in the NHL showing interest in 23 year old Yale goalie Alex Lyon, 1 of the best goalies in NCAA.
You would think given the state of the Flames goaltending, this would be an ideal place for a college UFA goalie.

How do you figure? I think With Gillies, McDonald, Schneider and likely one of Ortio or Poulin we would be one of the last choices since they will likely need some time in the minor leagues before being NHL ready.

Flames were apparently in on Matt O'Connor last year when there was a very good chance Gillies was going to go pro. Interest in O'Connor seemed to dry up once Gillies signed.

Could be the Canucks just hedging their options with Demko.

Something interesting about the Matt O'Connor saga:

The Sens gave him a game last season to burn a year off his ELC. Looks like it was a bad move in hindsight as he won't be getting another contract unless he really turns it around.

I wonder if players start to play it a little more safe in regards to that tactic. I remember Friedman being surprised we were able to sign K.M without giving him that NHL game.

That's a great point. Because he didn't burn that year, Morrison still has one more year remaining on his ELC.

If he didn't have another year, he might be in tough getting a new contract this summer.

it doesn't surprise me that O'Connor is having troubles-he's 6'6" and is all legs. Humongous five-hole. His crotch is higher than the net!

Burning a year on K.M doesn't seem like a bad thing in hindsight. If he doesn't improve he eats up a contract spot

Just speculating but from Conroy's radio hit this morning, it sounds like he was in Boston yesterday scouting Poturalski or Kelleher.

He said he was in Boston to scout a college guy, who was playing a must win game on Sunday and that guys team lost.

Only two games last night in the Boston area. UNH vs Merrimack and Sacred Heart vs Bentley. UNH and Sacred Heart lost.

Scanning through the UNH roster there isn't much draft wise. Sacred Heart doesn't seem to have much draft wise or college free agent wise.

Unless Conroy was there to watch a very under the radar player, it is likely he was there to watch one of Poturaski or Kelleher

Meh.... Has there ever been a college free agent that amounted to anything at all?

Yes . The one I remember most is Danny Dekeyser. They don't typically become superstars, but there's value on looking at them

Dartmouth is just a couple hours from Boston. Perhaps he was scouting someone on Colgate?

I doubt it. Conroy hinted they needed to watch the game last night because it was a surprise elimination game (i.e. they were expecting the team to go further in the tournament and didn't expect them to be in an elimination game on Sunday) and there wouldn't be an opportunity to watch the player again that season if they lost that game. At least that is how interpreted it.

Colgate could have been eliminated Saturday.

Poturalski seems like the most-likely target.

Conroy said that they were expecting the team to go on in the tournament so they'd have more chances to watch the kid, and UNH had won the first game of their best-of-three on Thursday, then lost the second game in OT. Even yesterday's loss was only a 2-1 score.

It looks like Kelleher is smaller than Gaudreau. Poturalski is small, but not overly so. He's listed as 5'10", 190 lbs, so at least he has some weight.

He's a 22 year-old sophomore, who was on the initial list of Hobey Baker nominees, so there will likely be interest in signing him. His 1.41 points per game is 7th overall in the NCAA, and the highest for a sophomore.

It looks like he grew up in Northern NY as a Sabres fan and attended Buffalo's prospects camp last year.
